Publisher, Long Island Press
Long Island is playing a role in helping lead the way. In this month’s edition, the Innovation
Issue, we bring you stories about the region’s business incubators, explosive pharmaceutical
growth, and an in-depth look at the smart-home trend — all of which are improving our
lives in ways big and small.
Innovation can also make what’s old new and entertaining again. On this month’s cover
is LI’s Ralph Macchio, who reprises his role as Daniel LaRusso in The Karate Kid in the
breakout series Cobra Kai, which picks up the story 30 years later. The show — season
two of which returns in April — is the first hit for YouTube’s original series unit, further
solidifying web streaming as an alternative to network and cable TV.
April is also National Autism Awareness Month. In the health section we have pro tips
for parents of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. And in the family and
education section, former New York State Assemb. Harvey Weisenberg (D-Long Beach)
shares his story about raising a child on the spectrum, chronicled in his new book, For the
Love of a Child.
On the lighter side of things, in the Destination column and Main Dish food sections, our entertainment reporters wade into
Cold Spring Harbor to bring us a roundup of all there is to see and do in this quaint waterfront community oozing with charm.
Also, please join us at the Power Women of Long Island business networking and awards event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday,
May 8 at Leonard’s Palazzo, 555 Northern Boulevard, in Great Neck.
And as always, don’t forget to like Long Island Press on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and sign up for our
twice-weekly email newsletters rounding up all our stories on the updated-daily longislandpress.com
Happy Easter and Happy Passover!
