ACTS OF KINDNESS GIFT OF HEART By JOAN HOPE MACNAUGHTON
The Gentlemen of the De La Salle
School in Freeport wanted to make
their Special Persons Dance especially
meaningful on Valentine’s Day.
They celebrated and showed their
love and appreciation to their moms,
grandmothers, aunts or others who
hold a special place in their hearts.
For many weeks, all the boys in
grades 5 through 8 took ballroom
dance lessons at the school, taught
by two professional dancers, Artistic
Director of Leggz Ltd. Dance in Rockville
Centre Joan Hope MacNaughton,
and Broadway veteran dancer Diana
Quijano Graham.
The boys learned the basic steps of
the waltz, cha-cha, merengue, salsa,
and the conga line to surprise their
loved ones and make them proud
with their accomplishments while at
the dance.
They were taught formal dance
etiquette on how to ask a person
to dance, escort their guest onto
the dance floor, hold a partner in
proper dance position and thank
their partner for the dance, then
escort them back to their seat when
the dance was over. They were true
gentlemen.
It was a rousing success. The Valentine's
Dance special people were delighted
and everyone joined in for the
biggest conga line ever. The smiles on
the dance floor were so bright that the
room lit up without lights.
This evening will always be remembered
by the boys and their loved
ones. The boys were true gentlemen
in the Lasallian Catholic tradition
and they gave new meaning to the
word.
The Gentlemen of the De La Salle School in Freeport do the сonga.
