Why every Long Islander should
join the movement to save
America’s Wild Horses!
Lifelong Long Islander Manda Kalimian truly cares about
America’s Wild Horses, but she will be the first to tell you
why you should care too.
Manda Kalimian has always been a horse lover, a horse
advocate and maybe most importantly a horse friend, but over
the last decade she has taken that advocacy to a whole new
level and now she is truly a voice for the horses.
Manda Kalimian, founder of the CANA Foundation, started
CANA so she could rescue, rewild and rehome wild horses,
but Manda’s work doesn’t just end there. Manda’s vision
and hardwork has led CANA to be able to protect horses in
12 western states. She has guided CANA to work closely with
sovereign tribal communities and rehome wild horses onto
native land - and while all of that is more than enough to keep
one woman and one foundation busy, it seems the next stop on
her path to save America’s Wild Horses will be Washington, DC.
It all started a few months ago when some seriously dangerous
language for America’s Wild Horses ended up in a proposed
2018 U.S. House spending bill. That quietly inserted language
actually placed approximately 80,000 of America’s Wild Horses
at risk for slaughter. Manda, stepped up as usual and took on
one of her most important roles yet, a voice for the horses.
“We obviously leaped into action because there was no other
option. While CANA’s mission has always been to reconnect the
horses with their families and the land so they can protect and
preserve each other, obviously a lift of our nations ban on horse
slaughter would be devastating to that mission, America’s Wild
Horses, our American landscape, our environmental health
and America as a whole,” said Manda Kalimian, President and
Founder of the CANA Foundation. “Therefore, there is no option
to just sit on the sidelines, if we care about the future of horses
and the future of our environment, we must act now.”
So Manda and CANA are asking all of us to join their movement
to help save America’s Wild Horses, so we can also save our
American habitat and humanity. “We need to take action now.
We need to let our members of congress know that horse
slaughter is unacceptable. It’s devastating to America’s Wild
Horses, America’s budget and public health,” says Manda
Kalimian. “Whether you live in Long Island, NY or in the western
plains, we’re all affected by the plight of wild horses and so is
our environment and our public health.”
CANA is asking everyone to go to their website www.canafoundation.org and
click ‘TAKE ACTION’. That link will help you tell your federal elected officials to
KEEP THE BAN ON HORSE SLAUGHTER.
