FROM THE EDITOR
Happy Thanksgiving, LIC Courier readers!
As you get ready to fill your stomach with pounds
of food, be sure to flip through our pages for all
the latest news in western Queens.
We profile a new business, Black Star Bakery,
which will fulfill all of your coffee, breakfast and
bakery needs. The shop, located 2-10 50th Ave.,
bakes all of its good on site daily.
As many cities across the country compete for a
chance to host Amazon’s second headquarters in
North America, we outline the case the city made
to try to entice CEO Jeff Bezos to set up shop in
Long Island City.
We also spoke to Michael Bucella, a Long Island
City resident who felt compelled to visit Puerto
Rico to help Hurricane Maria victims. Though
Bucella has no family or friends on the island, he
heard about the slow pace of recovery and visited
not once, but twice to help in any way he could.
Western Queens pet owners know that the
area is teeming with groomers, doggy daycares
and other facilities that help pamper your pet. We
highlighted just a few shops to help those who
may need some last-minute dog food or a place
to board their pet before heading to vacation.
Vinny Vaccaro, the owner of Vaccaro’s Bakery
in Astoria, is currently competing for a chance
to star in his own television show on the Food
Network. He’s a contestant on “Guy’s Big Project,”
where Guy Fieri is looking for a chef who’s got the
qualities that viewers are looking for.
In addition to its diverse population, Queens also
has diverse housing stock. A Sunnyside resident
and architect is showcasing his photos of more
than 200 unique houses across the borough. If
you visit the exhibit, you just may see your house
in the spotlight.
This issue also includes the latest in real estate
and suggestions for events and museum exhibits
to visit.
