Giving Thanks Happy Thanksgiving, LIC Courier readers! Many of you will sit around the dinner table with family and friends to enjoy a great meal. If you’re like me and don’t have the greatest cooking skills, I’ve gathered a handful of great recipes from talented Long Island City chefs to give you a boost. From stuffing to dessert, LIC Courier has you covered. We also have some great news for King of Falafel fans. Freddy Zeideia announced that his popular King of Falafel food cart in Astoria will also be coming to Long Island City by the end of November. He plans to park his truck near the 59th Street Bridge. Several exciting new eateries are coming to the neighborhood including Slice Astoria, a pizza spot co-owned by the chef of Butcher Bar, Tikka Roll House, a fast-casual Indian cuisine spot and The Beast Next Door, a bar and café in Long Island City. We also profile two Long Island City designers who, out of their design studio in Astoria, have created a stylish bottle opener that makes a great gift during the holiday season. Don Capria, an Astoria author and screenwriter, published a book that explores the life and death of mob boss Joe Colombo. Colombo was a fascinating figure who, in addition to heading the Colombo crime family, was the founder of the Italian-American Civil Rights League. The city released this month possible routes for the BQX Streetcar and the project is expected to be up and running by 2024. Check out some of the possible routes it may take in Astoria and Long Island City. If you have any tips or story ideas, reach out to me at [email protected]. lic LONG ISLAND CITY COURIER
