Sunnyside Shines Sunnyside Holiday Passport Promotes Local Shopping with Prize Incentives Sunnyside residents have 19 reasons to shop local this holiday season. The Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District has created a Shop Local Holiday Passport featuring holiday shopping deals at 19 neighborhood businesses. Shoppers are encouraged to visit these businesses, purchase these deals and get their holiday passport stamped each time. Shoppers who collect three stamps may return their passports to any participating business for a chance to win cash prizes totaling $500. The purpose of the promotion is to encourage residents to shop local in Sunnyside and support local retailers this holiday season. The Sunnyside Shop Local Holiday Passports were mailed out to more than 23,000 local residents the week of November 1. Additionally, the Holiday Passports will be available at two upcoming holiday events sponsored by Sunnyside Shines: • Tuesday, November 22: Greenpoint Avenue Holiday Lighting, taking place at 6pm at Greenpoint Avenue at 46th Street. • Saturday, November 26: Small Business Saturday, taking place at 12pm in Bliss Plaza, at 46th Street and Queens Boulevard The businesses participating in the Sunnyside Shop Local Holiday Passport include local florists, optical stores, pharmacies and shoe stores, as well as a gift store, a pet store, a jeweler, a salon, a baking supply shop, a tattoo studio and a specialty food retailer. A few of the deals include: • Wespaw Pets (pet store): $5 off any purchase of $40 or more • Sugar Room (baking supply store): 10% off any purchase over $25 • Sunnyside Tattoo Studio (tattoo studio): 10% off all jewelry and piercings To participate in the promotion, a shopper just needs to show their passport to the participating business, purchase the deal and receive a stamp. A full list of participating businesses and their deals can be found at sunnysideshines.org “We are serious about supporting our local retailers for the holidays,” said Sunnyside Shines executive director Rachel Thieme. “We hope the Sunnyside Passport provides lots of incentives to shop locally this year.” Shoppers are encouraged to post their finds on social media using the #SunnysidePassport hashtag. Shoppers have until December 23 to visit businesses and get their Sunnyside Passport stamped. Passports with three stamps may be returned to any participating business by December 23, 2016 and will be entered into the drawing to win one of three cash prizes.
