MOMA PS1 22-25 Jackson Avenue 718-784-2084 “Sascha Braunig: Shivers” On view through March 5 With more than twenty works made over the last five years, Shivers showcases Braunig’s unique approach to the studio portrait. Beginning with meticulously rendered paintings of fantastical sculptural constructions, the artist has deployed a range of pictorial techniques to depict bodies under duress. The figures in her work are compressed by their environments, stretched and twisted across armatures, and often overwhelmed by their surroundings. NOGUCHI MUSEUM 9-01 33rd Road 718-204-7088 “Highlights from the Collection: Design Into Art” On view through Jan. 8, 2017 Long before it was widely accepted to do so, Noguchi ignored the traditional distinction between “art” and “design.” This exhibition focuses on the permeable membrane between these categories in Noguchi’s work, with lightweight and flat-packable furniture, stage sets, sculpture, and Akari Light Sculptures.
