Advertorial BY MICHELLE CHRISTINA LARSEN MOUTHWATERING UPGRADES FOR BREADBOX: LIC’s Mediterranean- Israeli Café Long Island City’s Breadbox (recently shortened from Breadbox Café) rolled out some fresh changes to graduate from generic brunch spot to full service restaurant. Owners Tal Shuster and Moshe Mizrahi have refined the unique menu to span American, Mediterranean and Israeli palettes. “Breadbox was started with three simple things in mind: delicious food, great people, and the best local neighborhood experience, all made with love,” says Shuster. “Breadbox is the result of collaboration between a local property owner, a developer, and a restaurateur joined together by a shared belief in Long Island City and a desire to support its residential community.” Breadbox is now open 7 days a week, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Brunch has become their busiest time with many requesting their best-selling dish, shakshouka, a mouth-watering combination of spiced poached eggs cooked in fresh tomato sauce with peppers and onions, served with pita bread. Dinner is the up-and-coming time slot on the heels of brunch, offering heartier dishes like fire-roasted eggplant and tahini, Moroccan beef cigars and shrimp moussaka--sauteed jumbo shrimp and grilled eggplant served with cherry tomatoes, spinach and capers. Breadbox proudly advertises their familyfriendly, dog-family atmosphere, so don’t hesitate to book a family dinner or birthday party... and bring your pooch! Their helpful staff will happily accommodate a family gathering of any size, and keep your pup happy with a water bowl. The bar area of the restaurant also received an upgrade, now boasting a full wine, beer and specialty cocktail menu for the late night crowd. Breadbox attracts both locals and visitors with its unique façade of 1,600 rolling pins, inspired by a building Shuster and staff found while touring Jerusalem. The beautifully preserved building had been relocated and reassembled according to numbered bricks. This inspired Shuster to combine architecture and design in new engaging way. Unique design, combined with a tempting menu, have solidified it as the local go-to for authentic Mediterranean-Israeli cuisine. Whether you’re looking for a place to relax and read the morning paper with a cappuccino, a meeting place for friends and family to share stories over food, or a spot to meet new neighbors while enjoying excellent food, the new and improved Breadbox is the place. “Whenever you come,” says Shuster, “we guarantee you will always find a warm welcoming atmosphere, fresh food at great prices and quality company.”
