July marks the start of the popular flea market’s “Meet the Maker Series,” where visitors will be able to get to know local breweries and speak with the makers behind the product. On July 18 and 19, Queens Brewery will take over the LIC Flea Beer Garden. Their beer maker will be on hand to discuss their beer making process, answer questions and provide tastings. That weekend only the variety of Queens Brewery beers will be on tap. On Aug. 1 and 2, Big Alice Brewing will be at the beer garden with their beer maker to also discuss with visitors on the beer making process, provide tastings and answer any questions. For that weekend, only the variety of Big Alice beers will be on tap. This month the LIC Flea will also hold its second annual Food Vendor Awards. Along with guest food expert judges, visitors can come and cast their ballot for their favorite food, drink, and dessert vendor. Throughout the summer, the flea market will also have live bands performing every weekend. LIC Flea & Food is located at the outdoor lot by the waterfront at the corner of Fifth Street and 46th Avenue. It runs every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., through the end of October.
