Two free summer events are coming up the first two Saturdays in August that are perfect for the whole family: August 1 is the Kids Arts Fair and August 8 is the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Concert. Both events take place on 46th Street underneath the famous Sunnyside arch, just across the street from the 46th/Bliss Street station on the 7 subway line. SUMMER STROLLS The series is called “Sunnyside Summer Strolls” and each event is open to the community and features popular programming. Saturday, Aug. 1: Kids Arts Fair from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Kids Arts Fair is a free day of craft-making activities for kids, as well as family-friendly performances all day long. Join a sing-along, get inspired by local dance troupes and create unique works of art all in one event. Saturday, Aug. 8: Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Concert from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The annual Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Concert is another popular event in Sunnyside. Named for famous jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke who lived in Sunnyside in the 1920s, the annual concert brings jazz performance to the street, complete with a dance floor to test out your moves. This year’s concert features music from the Sunnyside Social Club, Sunnyside Wolverines, Street Beat Brass Band and the Sunnyside Drum Corps.
