JUNE 2013 I LIC COURIER I www.queenscourier.com LIC -- THE PLACE TO BE! The summer is here and it is bringing more than just trips to the beach and long, warm nights with friends. To start off the season, LIC Flea & Food is finally here! The market launched on June 15 with a day filled with music, food, arts and so much more fun. LIC Flea will now be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the corner of 46th Avenue and 5th Street in Long Island City. So don’t forget to get the family together and make the LIC Flea your next weekend destination. Along with the new market making its debut, LIC residents will also be seeing new buildings reach for the sky this summer alongside the waterfront. For example, TF Cornerstone’s newest building at 45-45 Center Boulevard has already begun leasing to residents, offering them comfortable luxury living. LIC will be seeing so many improvements that even the bike lanes are set to get a makeover that will provide safety for bicyclists and parking spaces for drivers. In this issue we welcomed the beloved Muppets into Astoria as the Jim Henson Collection makes its way to call the Museum of Moving Image home. We sat down with a talented cellist who also shares a passion for food and also got the chance to interview a veteran photographer who captured many famous faces on film. Along with these interviews, we got to get in touch with our feline side by celebrating a city built just for the urban kitty. We also took a look at artists going beyond the normal methods of expression and got a taste of LIC. As you can see, LIC is not stopping and you shouldn’t either! We can now say the summer is finally here, so enjoy the longer days and continue exploring. As always, we welcome your feedback, ideas and want to hear about your findings! Get on out, take a trip down to LIC Flea on the weekend, go to the beach, have a picnic with friends or just sit out and have a great summer.
