The highly-anticipated launch of LIC Flea & Food, a brand new market running every weekend this summer and showcasing some of the city’s finest artists and vendors, was held on June 15 and 16. LIC FLEA will make Long Island City a summertime destination for visitors from all five boroughs and beyond. The market is located at the corner of 46th Avenue and 5th Street. Admission is free. LIC Flea & Food will be open every Saturday and Sunday this summer from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The market is within walking distance from the No. 7 train and East River Ferry LIC/Hunters Point stop. Riders can transfer from the N and Q lines at Queens Plaza to connect to the No. 7 train. The market will feature food from Manducatis Rustica to Little Bird Chocolates. Vendors will also be selling everything including antiques, vintage clothing, furniture, artwork and more. Below is just a taste of what you can find at LIC Flea & Food. The pizzas will be made on site in a brick oven Cerbone - Teoli brought in from Italy. “We bought a portable brick oven from Italy. We’re excited about it LIC Flea and it will just continue on being part of a big community. It’s really going to help to bring people from other boroughs to Long Island City.” RECYCLE A BICYCLE 35 PEARL STREET, BROOKLYN (718) 858-2972 www.recycleabicycle.org Recycle-A-Bicycle, the only nonprofit bicycle shop in New York City, will be selling bicycles for children ages six and younger. They also have a project called Cycle Craft, in which they create art and jewelry from spare bicycle parts. The art and jewelry created will also be sold at LIC Flea & Food, and the proceeds go towards support programming that introduces bike repair and cycling and healthy living to young people. “Recycle-A-Bicycle is thrilled to add a Green theme to the LIC Flea. We will be selling bike accessories, kids’ bikes and bike jewelry. If you are looking to donate that old bike of yours, bring it over to the flea! They will be bringing their one-of-a-kind cuisine to the LIC Flea & Food market every weekend, where they are excited to share the taste of Korea with Long Island City residents. LITTLE BIRD CHOCOLATES (646) 620-6395 www.littlebirdchocolates.com Little Bird Chocolates is an artisanal chocolate company started by husband and wife Corey and Sara Meyer. They cater weddings, birthday parties, communions and other events, and will be attending the LIC Flea & Food market to share their homemade treats with New Yorkers. Their signature product is a candied jalapeno covered in dark chocolate with a hint of sea salt, and they also offer milk-chocolate covered animal crackers. Although the company is only a few months old, they are looking to move to wholesale soon. “We’re very excited about the opportunity to be part of the LIC Flea! It’s a really big deal and we’re glad we can be a part of it.” JESSY’S PASTRIES (516) 232-4588 www.jessyspastries.com Jessy’s Pastries specializes in empanadas and alfajores, which are Peruvian cookies filled with milk caramel, or “dulce de leche.” The bakery, founded by Jessy Nahmias about a year ago, has been traveling to street fairs and markets and sharing the taste of Peru with New York City. They offer meat empanadas as well as vegetarian and vegan ones, and they can be either fried or baked. Jessy’s will be at the LIC Flea every COMMUNIT Y WELCOMES LIC FLEA & FOOD Saturday, and will be donating a percentage of their proceeds to ACDS, a school for children with Down syndrome. “We’re very excited to be part of the LIC Flea for the first time! We were chosen to be one of the vendors and we can’t wait to be part of something in the borough of Queens. After working in fashion for 10 years, Constant took her penchant for accessories and eye for style and turned it into a business that specializes in all types of eyewear, whether it’s vintage sunglasses or Wayfarers with fantastic floral patterns on them.
