Behind the Screen is a one-of-a-kind experience that immerses visitors in the creative and technical processes of producing, promoting and presenting films, television shows and digital entertainment. It is an innovative blend of 1,400 historical artifacts, video clips, commissioned artwork, video games and interactive exhibits. Visitors will be able to create animations, select sound effects and make flipbooks of themselves, among other activities. Recently acquired objects on view include makeup used on the stars of Sex in the City, a mechanical prop designed by Mike Marino for a climactic scene in Black Swan and molds and prototypes produced during the creation of a King Kong action figure. Better Homes brings together artists who examine how the notion of domestic space, and all it encapsulates, has been redefined in contemporary culture. Their works explore questions such as, what are the impacts of shifting ideas of family, identity, politics and consumerism in the private realm? Touching on the history of the interior to its present iterations, the artists in the exhibition examine displays of domesticity, as constructed through spaces and things.
