Mixing It Up BY SASHA POGREBINSKY Retro Spring is officially here, and there’s nothing better than that wonderful weather – everything seems lighter, SASHA POGREBINSKY SASHA POGR EBINSKY and the excitement of summer fun just on the horizon. Because spring is kind of like having one foot in the winter, and one foot in the summer – I like to make cocktails that have one foot in the past and one foot in the future. Therefore, nothing is better than to get retro. Here is a retro cocktail from the past that is so fitting and totally need to make a comeback – the Singapore Sling The Singapore Sling is as retro as it gets, though it was developed way long ago, it came into prominence in the 1960s and 1970s, and was the favorite of so many during this time of the year. Sasha’s first book “Rarely Known” was published in 2014 by Element Press and is available on Amazon. Ingredients: 1. Gin 2. Cherry brandy 3. Cointreu 4. Grenadine 5. Pineapple juice 6. Fresh limes 7. Bitters Preparation: 1. Fill shaker to top with ice 2. Mix an half an oz of brandy, Cointrue, grenadine into a shaker 3. Pour 3 oz of pineapple juice into shaker 4. Pour a dash of bitters (Angostura preferably) into shaker 5. Pour 2 oz of gin 6. Shake well until it foams Presentation: 1. Get a chilled highball (tall glass) and fill it with fresh ice cubes. 2. Strain the contents of your well shaken, foamy, cocktail into the glass so there is a nice foam on top. 3. Garnish with a fresh pineapple and a fresh cherry! Your friends will be impressed by your cocktail skills because it’s a beautiful presentation, and it harkens to a different time! May
