BEAUTY TIPS Cosmetical Junkie. Yes, that is what my husband calls me. Let me explain how he came up with that name. For the past 17 years, my life has been dedicated to beauty and cosmetics. From my very first job in a salon on the Upper East Side, I knew that it would be the only world I wanted to revolve in. The rest sounds like a journey. I have worked in the top spas in New York City, was part of a 9/11 project treating victims that were exposed to too much debris and suffered from many skin ailments, I became an instructor at the renowned Atelier Esthetics School for Estheticians, from there I turned to an international trainer for a German brand and took over the distribution in the U.S. After I met my husband, who was working for the same company (for privacy purposes we will call him “the voice of reason”) we decided to combine our knowledge to create our own line of cosmetics for professional and retail sales. Before our precious son came to the world last November, I opened my own spa in Long Island City in order to do what I love the most, make people look and feel beautiful. So as you can see I really had the chance to study the industry from all different points of view and, believe it or not, even after all these years of having experienced pretty much everything in the field, I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I see a new cream or lip-gloss. I hope to share my love of cosmetics and beauty so you can appreciate this magical and unique world from a professional point of view. How many times have you ended up at a cosmetic counter and spent a bunch of money having no idea what was inside your bag? It has happened to me so many times and it always happens again. So based on that you may understand why the voice of reason is always telling me that he does not understand how despite the many years spent in this industry, I am still reacting like a real consumer. In fact, I am proud that I did not lose my sense of magic knowing all that I have learned in this industry. I still believe that there may be something that will make me feel great and look younger. And I am never getting tired of trying again. Others play Powerball, no? Joke aside, getting professional advice from your salon or spa should really help you to make a SMART purchase for your beauty needs. It is 1,200 hours of school for cosmetologists and two years on the salon floor, 600 hours for aestheticians and one year of working under a trained aesthetician. So let me finish by suggesting a facial, haircut, massage or any beauty ritual important to you for the beautiful spring. It is the time of year to feel renewed and try to get ready for the summer. And always remember when we feel good about the way we look, we are ready to take on the world!
