Springtime Happiness Spring is finally just around the corner and Long Island City, Astoria and Sunnyside are welcoming it with open arms. Before moving on to this month’s issue, we want to continue sending our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Alan Capper, one of the LIC Courier’s wonderful writers and a friend. We can’t wait to have him back and writing! For our front cover we bring you Taber Licea, a musician and artist who creates one-of-a-kind guitars out of bamboo. Take a look inside and see the different guitars, all handmade by Licea. With these unique instruments, LIC will continue to rock. We start this month by happily announcing that the Astoria Flea & Food at Kaufman Astoria Studios will be opening in May! This brand-new market will bring the best in food vendors, antiques, collectibles, art, crafts, fashion and much more to New York City’s first outdoor film lot. Astoria Flea & Food will launch May 4 and operate every Sunday for eight consecutive weekends. Can’t wait! In this issue we introduce Court Square Studios to Long Island City. We wish them a successful future and welcome them to the community! Together with captivating images, we also look into the life and works of graffiti artist “DON 1” through LIC/Astoria author Louie Gasparro’s new book. This month we welcome Cassandra Bodzak, one of our new columnists. Bodzak is the happy, healthy living guru on ABC’s “The Taste,” founder of GoSweetandSkinny.com, and proud author of “Juicespiration,” a guide to do-it-yourself juice cleansing. Check in every month for some healthy tips and recipes. This issue also features great photos of the 4th Annual Queens World Film Festival, which held its opening night at the Museum of the Museum Image, and Sunnyside’s St. Pat’s for All Parade, which featured Mayor Bill de Blasio. We are also very happy to announce that the LIC Flea & Food market will be making its return on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6 at the outdoor lot located at 5th Street and 46th Avenue. The market will run every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please keep sending your feedback and ideas because we enjoy hearing from you. Happy St. Patrick’s Day and here’s to a beautiful warm spring!
