49 politics New Board Elected The Queen County Young Democrats (QCYD) has elected a new executive board. For the start of the month, more than 50 members of the QCYD gathered to elect a new executive board at the Anoroc Democratic Club located at 45-23 47th Street in Sunnyside. Long-time QCYD member and former Executive Vice President Hersh Parekh was elected president of QCYD. He is currently a third year law student at Maurice A. Dean School of Law at Hofstra University and a Democratic State Committeemember in the 35th Assembly District. “I am honored to be elected the new president of QCYD,” Parekh said. “Our new Executive Board represents all parts of the borough and truly reflects its racial and ethnic diversity. I look forward to building on hat diversity as we work to expand membership for our organization, which is already the second largest chapter in the state.” Parekh is replacing outgoing president Nick Roloson, who was elected in 2012. “After two years as president I feel proud in what we were able to accomplish,” Roloson said. “From aspiring high school students to veterans of the arms forces, the averaged QCYD member is no necessarily someone who works for an elected official anymore. We held a forum open to the public about education policy, we held fundraisers for community based organizations, we knocked on thousands of doors and made hundreds of phone calls for Democratic candidate across the state, and we are leaving Queens in a better place because of it.” The other newly elected board members include: • Rochelle Hayes, Executive Vice President, who is the director of policy at NYC Human MARCH 2014 I LIC COURIER I www.queenscourier.com Resources Administration/Department of Social Services. • Patrick Jordan, Vice President of Political Affairs, who serves as Petitioning Director for Kathleen Rice for Congress. • Andy Laine, Vice President of Membership, who serves as Councilmanic Aide to Councilmember Ruben Wills. • Angel Vasquez, Vice President of Diversity & Outreach, who serves as Chief of Staff to Assemblymember Mike Miller. • Richard Getzel, Secretary, who is a public school teacher at Nathaniel Hawthorne Middle School 74. • Stacey Eliuk, Treasurer, who is a New York Tracker & Researcher at American Bridge. • Shachar Sharon, Communications Director, who also serves as Communications Director for Councilmember Costa Constantinides.
