In a 302 bed, state-of-the-art facility, patients are offered long-term and short-term skilled nursing care and a variety of services, including IV therapy, ventilator care, palliative and hospice care, nutrition services, dialysis treatment, social services, and therapeutic recreation. “We do everything,” said Asher Frankel, Director of Marketing. “We’re a mini-hospital. We do everything except for surgery. And I’m sure, when it’s allowed that a rehab facility can do surgery, we’re going to be doing it.” Available amenities include 24-hour concierge services, WiFi, cable and telephone services, a beauty parlor, and housekeeping and laundry services. “It’s a personal touch,” said Frankel. “Every person that comes in is not looked at as just a patient: they’re looked at like a family member.” “We’re like family group; we’re not a business,” said Lisa Dowd, Director of Nursing. “This is not a job to me: this is a privilege.” A staff of 160 skilled, full-time nurses treat each patient with respect and diligence. “We provide compassionate care to everybody who comes to the building,” said Dowd. “We are family taking care of family.” Wanda Maldonado stayed at The Pavilion for fi ve months to receive tracheotomy care and rehabilitation. “They gave me therapy,” said Maldonado. “I was walking, I was doing the bicycle, I was doing work with one my hands--pulling things with my hands--so I could try and raise my arm up: and pain would be relieved. They treated me good. I have no complaints.” The Pavilion also offers unique music therapy. In partnership with MusicandMemory. org, 80 iPods containing a wide variety of music genres are made available for residents’ enjoyment and relaxation. The staff at The Pavilion share in a common goal: to provide the most complete care and rehabilitation, allowing patients to lead full and independent lives. “It is a privilege for me and my nurses to see our patients get better and get back on their feet,” said Dowd. “That is, in itself, our mission.” The Pavilion at Queens Rehabilitation and Nursing is located at 36-17 Parsons Blvd. in Flushing.
