Diners were all visibly enraptured with the Jägerhaus experience, from couples enjoying a romantic night out to families of all ages sitting down together. Although The Courier was at the establishment on a rainy evening, the atmosphere was romantic in an outdoor enclosed area, with diners shielded by glass underneath the downpour. The eatery takes the quality of its food and drink very seriously, importing many of its supplies directly from Europe. This included a soft starter pretzel sourced from Munich, served with such worthy sides as smoked mustard and a creamy homemade beercheese made with Krombacher Pils, a Pilsner-style beer brewed in Germany. Jägerhaus uses the high caliber of ingredients to elevate its already innovative take on classic appetizers. A deviled egg with buffalo blue cheese was undeniably delicious, but it was the crispy speck of German bacon included on top creating a signature style which can only be tasted at Jägerhaus and will not be soon forgotten. Potato pancakes take on a new life served with Jägerhaus’ rosemary creme, and generations of potato pancake lovers will taste the dish as a revelation with addition of the earthy herb flavor. The salad course was also blessed with complex touches. The foraged green salad had tart pickled onions complementing the young mesclun mix, while the nuttiness in a toasted pumpkin seed vinaigrette was echoed by tossed pumpkin seeds. Although the appetizers and salad were beyond reproach, the real stars of the Jägerhaus experience are the entrees and main dishes. The Hungarian goulash over homemade spätzle is hearty, warm and creamy: perfect comfort food for feeling cozily satisfied in the fall weather. The bockwurst sausage married ground pork and veal with fresh and savory parsley cooked right into each flavorful bite, and the chicken schnitzel over home fries and mushroom gravy was crisp, exquisite and juicy to the very center of the meat. Jägerhaus also has an exemplary dessert menu. A strawberries and cream bowl has the fresh and sunny taste of summer strawberries served over vanilla ice cream. The warm chocolate tart served with pistachio ice cream is rich with an oozy, luxe chocolate center made of mousse. Apple strudel has an unexpected surprise with mixed berries underneath vanilla ice cream, served with a caramel sauce so delicious one could almost drink it right up as its own liquid treat. 16 cryder point courier | decEMBER 2015 | WWW.QNS.COM Out &About Bored and nothing to do?
