July 14 Out & C R Y D E R P O I N T Out About Yoga Class at the Bayside Historical Society Tuesdays, 12:15pm-1:15pm 208 Totten Ave. (Fort Totten), Bayside 718-352-1548 www.baysidehistorical.org The Society promises that this class is “gentle and restorative yoga for beginners” and is “for students over 50.” Nevertheless I’d still stock up on a couple of tubes of BenGay. Each class is $10 and includes all equipment: mats, blocks, blankets, straps and bands. Call ahead to sign up or just hobble on over. Zumba at Little Bay Park Wednesdays, 6:30pm-7:30pm Cross Island Pkwy. between Utopia Pkwy. and Totten Ave. www.nycgovparks.org/parks/littlebaypark Zumba is actually a great way to dance like a maniac and not get laughed at. These free classes are held at the hockey rink in the park and continue throughout the summer. A Salute to the Tonys Sunday, July 10 and 17, 2pm and 7pm Theatre by the Bay, Bay Terrace Garden Jewish Center 13-00 209 Street, Bayside www.theatrebythebay. com 718-428-6363 Who needs Hamilton? (Who can afford Hamilton?) The Theatre by the Bay will present its homage to the Tony Awards for four performances. Tickets cost just two Hamiltons ($20) for kids under 12 and seniors 62 and over; everyone else, please add two Washingtons. Lincoln Center Screening: Mozart Celebration Thursday, July 14, 5:30pm-6:30pm Whitestone Library, 151-10 14 Road 718-767-8010 Here’s a little music education in summer: As part of Lincoln Center’s ongoing partnership with the Queens Library, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center filmed a festive all-Mozart program. Selections include the Piano Trio in B-flat major, the Horn Quintet in E-flat major and the Viola Quintet in C major. I feel more cultured already. Admission is free. Summer officially began on June 20 so there’s a bunch of things happening outdoors now, plus a couple of things to do in case it rains. That’s a good thing, because July is National Anti-Boredom Month! Josh Groban at Jones Beach Friday, July 22, 7pm 1000 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh www.jonesbeach.com Josh must be in a Broadway state of mind these days. In the fall, he’ll be heading to the Great White Way to star in a new musical, “The Great Comet.” But before that, he’ll be singing tunes from his Broadway-inspired new album “Stages” in this one-nightonly performance. An extra treat: Josh will be joined by singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan. Tickets start at $40. Shakespeare in the Park: Julius Caesar Thursday, July 28, 6:30pm– 10:30pm Crocheron Park, 214 Place between 33 Ave. and 35 Ave., Bayside www.nycgovparks.org/parks/ crocheron-park This evening of free live entertainment kicks off at 6:30 with a one-hour interactive children’s workshop which includes teaching kids the principles of ensemble acting and introducing them to the style and language of Shakespeare’s plays (in sixty minutes?). The actors take the stage at 7:30 for their performance of Julius Caesar. Long story short, Caesar wants to be the emperor of Rome. Brutus and Cassius don’t want him to. Conflict ensues. People die. The end. Outdoor Movie Night: Jurassic World Friday, July 29, 8pm-10pm Crocheron Park, 214 Place between 33 Ave. and 35 Ave., Bayside www.nycgovparks.org/parks/crocheron-park It’s a twofer: Enjoy a free movie under the stars and get scared silly at the same time! This third Jurassic installment (rated PG-13) revolves around a new theme park that was built on the original site of Jurassic Park. Everything is going along swimmingly until the park’s newest attraction, a genetically modified giant killing machine, escapes confinement and goes on a killing spree. I hate when that happens.
