BY JILL DAVIS Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 17, this year. Unlike Mother’s Day, when just
about every restaurant in creation offers a special brunch, Father’s Day offers a
lot fewer options. But maybe that’s okay and he’d rather not do anything that
requires dressing up.
Since I shared some classic quips for Mother’s Day, it’s only fair that we give
Dad the same treatment. Enjoy!
“Just once on Father’s Day I wish my kids would give me a #1 Dad mug instead
of one with my actual ranking.” - Andy Borowitz
“Happy Father’s Day, Dad! I wouldn’t trade you for anything. Of course, nobody’s
offered me anything.” - Melanie White
“For Father’s Day we got my dad a t-shirt that says “Do Not Resuscitate.” He
wears it whenever mom takes him to the ballet.” - Greg Tamblyn
“I enjoy Father’s Day. It’s a time when I pause to reflect on the joy that has
come into my life thanks to my two wonderful children, whose names escape
me.” - Dave Barry
“I would give my dad what he really wants on Father’s Day, but I can’t afford to
move out yet.” - Melanie White
When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have
the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the
old man had learned in seven years.” - Mark Twain
Here are some fun events coming up over the next several weeks:
Subway Series: Yanks vs. Mets
Thursday, June 8 through Saturday, June 10
Citi Field
123-01 Roosevelt Avenue, Flushing
Yankee and Mets fans alike love a subway series! Celebrate Dad’s Day a little
early, and it doesn’t matter which side of the outfield fence he sits on. These are
all evening games, but start times and ticket prices vary across the three days, so
visit mlb.mets for more info. Take note: Saturday night is Fireworks Night!
The Belmont Stakes – 150th Running
Saturday, June 9
2150 Hempstead Turnpike,
Elmont
718-641-4700
belmontstakes.com
Now that Justify has taken the
first two legs of the Triple Crown,
there’ll be extra excitement at
Belmont this year. I’m no handicapper,
but I think the Derby
and Preakness winner is going
to have a tough time pulling it
off; he won the Preakness by
only a ½ length, with contenders
Bravazo and Tenfold closing
in on him in the stretch (and both are in the early lineup). But still, we can hope!
And you can hope to get tickets, which are sure to be hot. Prices start at $25.
