New Year’s Brunch of Fun!
WWW.QNS.COM | FEBRUARY 2019 | CRYDER POINT COURIER 7
BY JILL DAVIS
As always, lots of folks turned out for Cryder Point’s
Annual New Year’s Brunch, which was held on Sunday,
Jan. 13. No one took a formal count, but we did run out
of tables and chairs note to self: stock the room better
next year!
It probably helped attendance that the weather was relatively
mild for a quick stroll over to the 01 Community
Room. Notably, some people remarked that they didn’t
realize that the spread of bagels, bialys, croissants and
assorted cream cheeses would also include lox. I found
that quite surprising, since lox are indeed a standard part
of this special occasion (and personally, I’ve always felt
they’re the major attraction!).
Everyone mixed and mingled and the atmosphere was,
as always, very warm and friendly. One of the highlights
of the afternoon turned out to be that it was Rose Girome’s
birthday. Although the brunch has always been
held sometime around her birthday, unbeknownst to
any of the organizers, Jan. 13 happens to be her actual
birthday. We knew something was up when there was a
round of applause when Rose joined the party, complete
with Happy Birthday balloons. Why the applause? Rose
turned 107, but you’d never know it, as the photos here
will attest. It was great to see you again, Rose, and I hope
you had a great time.
By the way, birthday wishes wouldn’t be complete without
mentioning the birthdays of two other long-time
Cryder Pointers: Esther Cohen turned 95 in January, and
Lillian Wallace had her 95th birthday this past November.
Happy Birthday to you both!
All in all, it was really nice to see everyone come out of
“hibernation” to chat and nosh and wish each other well.
See you all next January and in the meantime, a healthy
and happy 2019 to all.

Talk about a coffee klatch!
Marty Lassman: “I gotta get home to watch the football
game.” Loy Lassman: “That man is always in such a hurry.”
Taste testers agree: “This is definitely Utopia Bagels.”

Clearly, not enough chairs… Did we run out of coffee?
