FEBRUARY 18
BY JILL DAVIS OOuutt About
&According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), roughly 55% of the U.S. will celebrate
Valentine’s Day in some way and roughly 1/3 of the total $20billiion spent for
Valentine’s Day will be on jewelry. On the other hand, over half will spend their money
on candy. Question: Who came up with the idea of giving a gift that’s fattening and
causes acne?
Below are some fun quotes about that four-letter word, l-o-v-e. To those who are celebrating
Valentine’s Day, have a happy. To the rest, grin and bear it until Feb. 15:
“Love is a lot like a backache. It doesn’t show up on x-rays, but you know it’s there.” ~
George Burns
“A man in love is incomplete until he has married. Then he’s finished.” ~ Zsa Zsa Gabor
“If love is the answer, could you rephrase the question?” ~ Lilly Tomlin
“Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your hearth or burn down your house,
you can never tell.” ~ Joan Crawford
“It wasn’t love at first sight. It took a full five minutes.” ~ Lucille Ball
“A guy knows he’s in love when he loses interest in his car for a couple of days.” ~ Tim
Allen
“My wife and I were happy for 20 years – then we met.” ~ Rodney Dangerfield
Here are some fun things happening around the area of the coming weeks. Enjoy!
143rd Westminster Kennel Dog Show
Madison Square Garden
Monday, February 11 & Tuesday,
February 12, 8pm-11pm
212-213-3165
westminsterkennelclub.org
It’s a dog’s life…which is a darned nice one for these pampered pooches. Yes, they’re
groomed and fed like royalty, but the competition is fierce as they strut their stuff in
front of tuxedoed judges at MSG. As always, there’s a wide range of ticket prices, so
check out the website for info. But if you want to chillax and save some bucks for dog
biscuits, the show will air live both nights on Fox Sports 1 (Channel 400 for Spectrum
subscribers; Channel 583 for Verizon FiOS folks). Arf!

tillescenter.org
516-299-3100
The Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Monty Python’s
Spamalot, resumes its search for the Holy Grail
at the Tilles Center this month. The lunacy is set to
a book by Eric Idle of Monty Python fame—need I
say more? The producers promise that “flying cows, killer rabbits, taunting Frenchmen
and show-stopping musical numbers are just a few of the reasons audiences worldwide
are eating up Spamalot!” Tickets range from $49 to $89 for either show.
RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles
Friday, February 22, 8pm
Tilles Center
720 Northern Blvd., Brookville
tillescenter.org
516-299-3100
This iconic
Beatles tribute
band is
celebrating
the (gasp!)
50th anniversary
of the
release of
Abbey Road.
They’ll also
be throwing
in some
early Beatles
favorites too.
The Associated
Press
says that seeing RAIN is “the next best thing to seeing the Beatles.” At ticket prices
topping out at over $90, they ought to be. Tickets are $43, $53 and $93.

have plenty of time stop and smell the flowers. Weekend tickets are $28 for adults/$25

Here’s something different in
the neighborhood. Verdi’s, in
association with Queensborough
Community College, is
putting on a big Italian buffet
complete with a DJ for
dancing. Then, after you’ve
had your fill of foolishness
on the dance floor, there’ll
be a performance of It’s Your
Line Now! by veteran comedians
Al Isaacs, Scott Baker and
Vinnie Mark (and some extra
help from the audience). Grab your
tickets fast because seating is limited.
Note that there’s valet parking (yay!). All
tickets are $69.
