FEBRUARY 4
CONGRATULATIONS
GAIL SMITH!
The Bayside Historical Society held its 18th Annual
Art Show at Fort Totten in January and Cryder
Point’s very own Gail Smith received Honorable
Mention for her beautiful watercolor, “The Basket.”
Gail said, “I was so excited to have the opportunity
to show my watercolors with so many talented
Queens artists and I was thrilled that my work received
an honorable mention.” She added, “I haven’t
been painting the last couple of years but this show
has inspired me to pick up my paint brush again!”
And we’re sure glad about that! Way to go, Gail!

Message from
the Board President
I’m beginning to wonder if January weather is
becoming increasingly fickle. We’ve had days as
high as 50 and as low as the single digits. As we
head into February, it’s a good time to remind everyone
to have your windows and radiator valves
checked if you’re having a problem with heat.
Please do not fiddle with them yourself—call your
concierge to schedule to have one of our staff come
and take a look. And, of course, it’s not too late to have your window air
conditioner removed since there’s still quite a long way to go through the
winter. Please note that your a/c units will be removed and reinstalled
at no charge.
Scheduling of the 01 roof installation is being worked on for as early
in the spring as possible. In the meantime, temporary repairs are being
done as needed.
As previously reported, NYC is requiring elevator upgrades throughout
the city, and it’s a complex project (pun intended). The Board will
be meeting this month to tackle the plan, after which a shareholders’
meeting will be called; date TBD, so stay tuned.
Check out the Community Affairs Corner in this month’s issue for
a couple of new activities the committee is cooking up (spoiler alert:
Bingo is on the schedule for the first time). The committee always welcomes
new ideas for events and activities, so please reach out to Board
liaison Eileen Annechino if you have a brainstorm or two.
I hope you enjoy the photos in this issue from our January New
Year’s Brunch. As always, we had a great turnout and it was a lovely
afternoon. I’m already looking forward to next year’s get together and
I hope you are too.
In the meantime, here’s hoping that the groundhog didn’t see his
shadow and the rest of the winter is mild. Regardless, remember that
the clocks will change to Daylight Saving Time on March 10, which
means spring isn’t too far away!
Till next time, Jill Davis
