Utility companies and govemment agencies will not contact you demanding immediate payment by iTunes Grft cards. Below is information from the New York City Police Department on how to avoid being a victim and what you can do. If you have any questions, please contact Management or call the 109 Precinct at 718- 321-2250. iTunes Gift Card Scam People are losing thousands of dollars in a phone scam involving iTunes Gift cards. After receiving a call from someone demanding bail money for a relative or friend who was arrested, as a settlement for an auto accident, or collectinq debt from either a utility company or the IRS, people are being threatened with the loss of their heat, electric, possible deportation or criminal proçecution. What Can I Do? Caution Know This Information Four typical scenarios: Arrest Scam: The victim’s family member has been arrested and the caller, pretending to be a Police Officer, threatens to keep them in unless bail money is made with an iTunes Gift card. Accident Scam: The victim's family member had a car accident and the caller threatens physical violence unless immediate reimbursement is made with an iTunes Gift card. Utility Scam: Utility company demands immediate payment by iTunes Gift card or your electricity or gas will be turned off. IRS Scam: A caller informs the victim that they owe back taxes to the IRS and must make immediate payment with an iTunes Gift card. NOTE: The IRS will never call you without first sending you a bill in the mail. If you get a call from anyone asking you to pay your taxes, hang up and call 800-366-4484 to report it.
