Walsh replaces Jamaican Andre
Coley who presided over the recent
five-match Twenty20 international
series against England.
Former West Indies batsman and
men’s head coach, Gus Logie, was
appointed interim head coach last
October and led the Stafanie Taylor
appointed unit to the T20 World
Cup.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) Director
of Cricket, Jimmy Adams, backed
Walsh’s appointment — a former
Jamaica and West Indies teammate
— to add value to the women’s program.
Walsh will be overseeing the program
initially until the end of the
next two ICC Women’ World Cups in
2022 and he will be pivotal in working
with CWI’s High Performance
Team to move the whole women’s
program forward, as part of CWI’s
wider strategic plan which has Women’s
cricket as a key priority.

in Auckland for a match under lights.
The series then moves to Mount
Maunganui for two matches at the
picturesque Bay Oval- the first a day
match and the second under lights.
West Indies will then travel for
the first Test at Sedon Park and then
south to Wellington Park for the
second match at the historic Basin
Reserve.
The T20 series will be the start of
an 11-month schedule of matches
building up to the ICC T20 World
Cup, rescheduled for October 2021
in India.

our obligation to tour New Zealand

track, in spite of the financial difficulties.”
run out route off the next two balls,
setting the game up for an exciting
finish.
But Selman then sent down a
front-foot-no-ball- her second of the
innings- as Sophie Ecclestone (1 not
out) sprinted from the last three
balls. Selman shockingly bowled a
high full toss to put England over
the line.
It was a wretched campaign where
the West Indies’ lost all fiveT20
matches by significant margins.
For the Caribbean side, the series
defeat was their second 5-0 whitewash
following their hammering at
the hands of Australia last November
and they have now lost all of their 13
T20 Internationals.
Score: West Indies Women 41 all
out in the revised total of five overs.
England 42 for seven off 4.3 overs.

“It’s a moment for young Flemmings
to introspect,” said Miguel Coley of Junior
Flemmings, the Jamaican football
midfielder who was suspended from his
American professional club for hurling
a homphobic remark at an openly gay
player.
Coley who was Flemmings’ coach
at Jamaica College told the Jamaica
Observer newspaper, that this reflection
is a must for, “all of us in the sport,
especially those aspiring to progress
internationally”.
The comment from Coley, who is
in the United Arab Emirates, came on
the heels of news that Flemings’ club,
Phoenix Rising, suspended him for six
matches and placed him on administrative
leave.
The United Soccer League also fined
him an undisclosed amount.
Flemmings, 24, is said to have thrown
the remark at San Diego Loyal’s Collin
Martin, during a match last week.
Reacting to the alleged insult by the
man from Tivoli Gardens man, the San
Diego Loyal players walked off the field
in solidarity with their teammate. The
Loyal forfeited the game despite being
ahead 3-1 at the time.
Flemmings denied the accusation
but the Jamaica Football Federation
issued a statement, “to make it clear
that we abhor foul, abusive or discriminatory
language. We are indeed disappointed
and we impress upon our players
both locally and internationally to
be mindful of their expressions.”
“Every player should use this incident
as a teachable moment while they
maintain their professionalism even
under pressure or provocation,” JFF
added.
The Jamaica Gleaner reported that
Flemmings scored 29 goals in 43
appearances for Phoenix Rising since
signing for them in 2019.
His problem is that the contract
with the club ends next month and the
administrative leave remains effective
until the deal ends.
His most redeeming factor for him
to ink another contract is the high goal
contribution he has made to the club.
It may help also that the San Diego
Loyal stated Saturday that Flemmings
should be given a second chance to
correct his behaviour as well as not
condoning the ‘expressions of hatred’
that have been allegedly levelled against
him.
