HEALTHCARE AWARDS
Jennifer Trotman truly has healing
hands. The loyal and loving mother,
daughter, sister, and friend says
that if she were to be granted one
superpower it would be, “The power to
heal, whether it be emotional, physical
or spiritual. Why? Our health affects
the quality of our lives, now and in the
future. Our mind is the guardian of
our health.”
Considering her selfless wish, and
the noble way that she takes care of
her loved ones and those in her community,
it makes perfect sense that
Trotman began her professional career
in the health industry as a registered
nurse.
Born and raised in Georgetown,
Guyana, Trotman graduated with a
Bachelor in Science degree in Nursing
from Tuskegee Institute in Alabama,
then went on to earn her Master of
Science degree in Mental Health Education
and Counseling at Long Island
University in New York. She has now
been working in the health industry
for 45 years. Not only does this Guyanese
Florence Nightingale serve the
medically needy at work and in her
community, serving as a member of
the Singles Ministry, the Medical /
Health Ministry and the Missionary
Ministry at Full Gospel Assembly in
Brooklyn —s he also served her country
as a captain and a lieutenant in the
U.S. Army Reserve for 13 years.
Throughout her illustrious career
she has held various influential positions
and trained and mentored both
new and veteran nurses—helping
young nurses advance their careers
is an experience that she truly enjoys.
This highly successful healthcare professional
says that the best career
advice she ever received was to, “always
treat people the way you would like to
be treated.”
Heather Tucker
Florence Nightingale once said:
“Live life when you have it. Life
is a splendid gift; there is nothing
small about it.”
If you know Jamaican-born Registered
Nurse Heather Tucker, you
would probably know that these are
words that she lives by.
Tucker says her humble beginnings
in the health care field originated as a
home health aide in 1991.
She says her driving passion to
help others in need encouraged her
to advance her career and to continue
her education.
She fulfilled her goals as a graduate
of the Montefiore School of Nursing
in 2005 and with a Bachelor in Nursing
from the College of New Rochelle
in 2015.
Tucker, who has been in the health
care field for 20 years and works 37.5
hours per week, says she’s a patient
care coordinator in the operating
room through the Cardiothoracic Surgical
Division at Montefiore Medical
Center in the Bronx.
The Bronx resident says working in
the operating room has enabled her to
gain extensive experience in pediatric
and adult open-heart surgery, transplantation
surgery, and mechanical
assist devices, among others.
The best piece of career advice she’s
ever received is “to take constructive
criticisms for what it is.”
“This is a gift given to you to make
you better at what you do,” Tucker
says. “Do not be upset with how
or who delivers it; instead, use it to
improve your practice and move on.”
If she had one superpower, she
would like to “create a clone of myself,
so I could accomplish a lot more while
helping others to help themselves.”
Jennifer,
“The talent of success is nothing more than doing
what you can do well; and doing well whatever
you do…”
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
