their rally. The minutes
were ticking, and then
again, Richie drove the
ball up fi eld and landed
a perfect assist to
Frankie Mosca who was
ready to score the tying
goal. With the game in
a tie, the entire team got
a burst of energy and
played like warrior poets,
Mallory Ventola,
Grace Abraham, John
Chalen-Lopez, Alyssa
Esposito held a strong
defense. Mid-fi elders
Lauren Esposito, Nikolas
Maldonado, Ryan &
Sean Kiely battled with
heart and helped end the
game with a miraculous
win for Global. Frankie
Mosca ending the game
with 3 goals, and Richie
Guarnieri with 1 goal
and 3 assists. For a fi nal
score of 4-2.
St. Benedict’s were
3-1 winners over Dr. Ken
Gonoud on a perfect Saturday
for soccer. Once
again leading the charge
was James Addario who
scored two goals – one
on a breakaway and the
second on a penalty. St.
Benedict’s third goal
came off the left foot of
Danielle Shack as she
navigated through heavy
traffi c. The defense by Isabella
Bondi, Wint Kennedy,
and Alessandra
Romeo was once again
solid and helped keep
the pressure off goalies,
Ryan Clark and Jonathan
Beauvoir. On the
offensive side, Joseph
Balbona was involved in
nearly every attack and
as he was supported by
great play from Jason
D’Agostino and Viviana
Romeo. The midfi eld was
controlled by Angelina
Rodriguez, Sophia Cifu,
and Chloe Cruz. Also
playing key roles in this
win were Carly Brandon,
Leannah Murphy-Arias,
Daniella Marciano, and
Quinn Brogan.
BOYS MAJORS
On this beautiful
brisk October morning,
Cardinal Spellman
versed Bronxville Auto
for another great match.
The last time they met
AFC RAPID
SOCCER
Bronxville Auto pulled
out the “W”. Today both
teams offensively and defensively
were equally
aggressive. The older
cousin, Christos Argyros,
tied the game 1-1 with
a deep shot from more
than thirty yards away.
Cardinal Spellman’s offense
missed many opportunities
in front of the
goal. The offense led by
Leonardo Vasquez, Senid
Godusevic, Ryan Picard
and Andrew Jones was
constantly pushing forward
which ended in little
cousin, Christos Argyros
fi nding the back
of the net to help Cardinal
Spellman take the
lead 2-1. The defense led
by Christopher Crowe,
Ryan Barrios, Dylan Rosado,
Christopher Jones,
Salif Kone, Gino Savona,
Ronnie and Johnnie
Verde-Rose managed to
hold the lead. Goalkeeper
Robert “Blaise” Bauman
made a tremendous diving
save in the end to
prevent Bronxville Auto
from scoring at the end of
the game in a 2-1 win.
GIRLS MAJORS
Capital Shield Insurance
is back on top with a
win against All Time Detection.
The game started
out with equal possession
of the ball even though
All Time was down some
players. Capital Shield
kept movement of the
ball with determination
to get through as forwards,
Jessica Dineen(1)
and Sia Karampimperis,
worked out some great
passing which led to a
goal. Defensively, Nina
Karampimperis shielded
the left side bringing
the ball up the sidelines
to Jessica(1) again with
another goal. All Time
didn’t give up and took
some great shots on goalie
Charlize but she stopped
each one until fi rst half
ended. Then Capital
Shield came back changing
up their defense with
Nina, Adriana Carbajal,
Olivia Lopez and Angelica
Rubino in goal. As
midfi elder Emily Gutierrez
and Daniella Mosca
along with Sia continued
to control the ball,
Allison Conde(1) got her
fi rst goal of the season.
Then a corner kick came
for All Time and as Capital
shielded the ball from
a goal, the ball rolled
to the feet of newcomers
to the league Neomi
Gonzalez who passed it
to Camila Loyo and she
took the ball up to Emily
who took a shot which resulted
in hitting off a defensive
player causing an
own goal, giving Capital
a big lead. Capital Shield
goalie, Charlize Apunte
then had some fi eld time
and the team worked together
to get the ball to
her feet as she scored
her fi rst goal. Still All
Time Detection showed
determination to get one
on them and it paid off
giving the team a goal
against Capital Shield
Insurance. Ending the
game 5-1.

While Bronxites prepared
to take a ‘bite out of crime’
at the annual August 1 Night
Out Against Crime, one crook
turned that around and took
a bite out of a local merchant
who tried to interrupt his
thievery.
A.M.A.F. Fashion business
owner Abdul Sol felt more
than an impact to his quality
of life on the morning of Sunday,
July 9, when a shoplifter
tried to leave his store with
a bag of clothing and Sol sufered
a severe bite on his left
rearm and a dislocated right
with the man.
At his 25 Westchester
Square store, Sol recalled how
the shoplifter had on previous
customer.
occasions
been a paying “He spent money here,
it’s not like I never saw him
before,” Sol said. “He came
around two or three months
ago and bought a pair of
shoes.”
But the Sunday of the assault,
the suspect asked for a
shopping bag, grabbed stuff,
and tried to leave, according
to Sol.
“I told him, ‘No, you can’t
take my stuff.’”
A fi ght ensued and Sol said
he “went to the ground with
him. I hurt my shoulder. He
took a big bite in my arm. I was
at the hospital until 6 o’clock. I
still have pain in my shoulder.
I still can’t lift my left arm.”
Sol said he had seen the
shoplifter associate with patients
from the Bronx Psychiatric
Center, so he fi gured he
was a client.
As Bronx Psychiatric Center,
on Waters Place, continues
to release its patients on
the street during the day, they
interact with homeless people
and drug rehab program.
Complaints have been
fi led with the city about beds
being moved into the building
or illegally converting it
into a residential building,
with some folks planning to
take legal action against the
landlord because they have
leases, according to multiple
sources.
Homeowners and renters
are also circulating petitions
to protest what appears to be
“a substance-abuse rehabilitation
program recruiting
staff” to work in the building
and lack of community notice
or engagement on what
may be sited at 2800 Bruckner
Boulevard.
“The community is defi -
nitely mobilized,” said Steven
Kaufman, an attorney who
is leading the Throggs Neck
Strong coalition looking into
the matter, adding “I believe
with mobilization, we might
be able to stop what they want
to do.”
Tenants in the building
say they got letters over the
last two weeks telling them
to vacate the building by
September, said Bobby Jaen,
Throggs Neck Merchants Association
president and coalition
member.
So far, at least 20 complaints
have been logged with
the NYC Department of Buildings,
including those concerning
“commercial space that is
being turned into residential
space” and those saying tenants
see “beds, dressers, mirrors
and chairs,” being moved
in.
As of press time, a meeting
of the Throggs Neck Strong
coalition has been planned
for the Crosstown Diner on
Thursday, August 3, with Jaen
expecting around 125 people,
following a lot of community
organizing and petitioning
that led to a forceful showing
at an earlier impromptu meeting
on Friday, July 28.
Anthony Mameli, Charles
Ruttenberg Realty’s Bronx
commercial real estate manager,
said the company was
planning a grand opening for
its new offi ce at the building
