THE NEW BRONX CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WINNERS OF SMALL BUSINESS RELIEF GRANTS
Ponce Bank, in partnership with The New Bronx Chamber of Commerce, announced the winners of its fi rst small business relief grant series, with each receiving a $500 grant toward
COVID-19 pandemic recovery: Chamber member Ponce Bank sponsored Illusion Photo Studio and South of France, Latino Restaurant and Bar. “Even prior to the pandemic, many Bronx
small businesses were surviving on razor-thin margins,” said Chamber president Lisa Sorin. “COVID presented a new set of challenges that many could not withstand. We are so grateful
to Ponce Bank for their sponsorships, which have made these grants possible.” “At Ponce Bank we believe that small businesses are the beating heart of our community and we are doing
everything we can to help those in our neighborhoods get through the pandemic,” stated Carlos Naudon, president and CEO of Ponce Bank. “The resilience and creativity exhibited by
small business owners during the pandemic humbles us daily. The New Bronx Chamber of Commerce is providing a great service to our community and we’re proud to partner with them
as they provide assistance to those that struggle.”

Our last zoom meeting
until fall will take place
on Tuesday, June 29, at 7:30
p.m. We are co-sponsoring
the meeting with the 45th
Precinct Community Council
who will provide Narcan
Training through the Bronx
Community Network. It is
important to know how to
deal with drug overdoses…
It can affect our families and
friends and if we know what
to do in an emergency, it can
mean the difference between
life and death.

We attended the Build the
Block meeting for Sector A
and were told that many people
are still leaving their keys
in the cars or leaving their
cars running while running
into a store. There has been
an uptick in cars being stolen
in this manner, so be aware.
Turn off your car, lock it up,
and take your key with you if
you are running into a store if
even for a few seconds to pick
up something. There was a recent
incident in the Throggs
Neck mall near the entrance
to the Whitestone Bridge.
Also, it was announced
by Offi cers Reyes and Santos
that a special anti-fi rework
squad will be seizing
fi reworks in the community
as we know they are illegal
and dangerous. Be smart! Be
safe!
Please join us on the 29th!!
We look forward to seeing
you! If you have any questions,
please call us at 718-823-
0327 or message us on our Facebook

Going to start off this
week’s column with wishing
a Happy Father’s Day
to all the dads out there.
Does your son know that
If his father served in the
military and is a veteran, a
great way to honor dad is by
joining the Sons of American
Legion. (also known as
the “SAL”.) Have them stop
by the Post and talk to SAL
Commander Fran Sampson.
He’ll give you all the information
you will need on how to
become a member. Speaking
of Fathers Day, June 20th is
also the solstice and the beginning
of Summer. It is the
longest day of the year!
Our Marine Corp League
performed a Flag Retirement
Ceremony on June 11th. That
is when an American Flags
that is no longer serviceable
or worn, are retired. Thank
you to MCL Owen Mangan
and all of the Leathernecks
and members that attended.
I forgot to mention in last
weeks article that National
Flag Day was June 14th. I
hope you displayed your
American Flag proudly! Did
you know the US fl ag, also
known as Old Glory and
the Stars and Strips, from
it’s inception has been an
important part of our nation’s
history. Seems as if
our American values are being
forgotten or taken for
granted. The American Legion
as a community base organization
performs Flag education
in schools, provides
scholarships, and leadership
programs such as Boys State
and a National Oratorical
contest. We also preserve the
memories and incidents of
our associations in all wars.
I know many parents are going
to be glad when school
is over this month, no more
ZOOM! I give a lot of credit to
both the children and teachers!
If you need to a place to
celebrate, give our Post a
call 718.822.8873, talk to Jeanette.
We are planning a July
3rd BBQ . More details to
come. We are always looking
for community volunteers to
help with the Post. Painting,
patching, and fi xing, we got it
all. On a fi nal note, seems as
if people don’t want to belong
to organizations like they
use to anymore. Many organizations
are the lifeblood of
the community. Give it a try.
Become a leader, we can certainly
use some. Until next
week, for God and Country.
