Did Gov delay
transit plan?
Dear editor,
It will be interesting to
see if the next NYC Transit
Authority president will be
successful in following up on
preserving both funding and
implementation of projects
and programs championed by
Andy Byford’s Fast Forward:
The Plan to Modernize NYC
Transit subway and bus system.
Let’s hope that $19 billion
worth of funding support in
the current $51 billion MTA
2020 - 2024 Five Year Capital
Plan remains in place. We
will have to wait and see if the
$19 billion balance of funding
needed to complete this plan
will be approved in the next
Metropolitan Transportation
Authority 2025 - 2029 Five
Year Capital Plan. We will
also have some clues about
what the future holds when
the MTA gets around to releasing
the updated MTA 2020 -
2040 Twenty Year Long Range
Capital Needs Plan.
It was suppose to be released
by the end of December 2019. I
wonder if the MTA has delayed
release of this key document
until it has been pre-approved
by Governor Cuomo’s offi ce,
before it is seen by the public?

Can’t justify
no bail law
Dear editor,
The bail reform must be
reversed. It has made NY the
most dangerous state to live
and work in. This bail reform
has nothing to do with what
color you are, or if you are poor
or rich. It only has to do with
whether you are a criminal
or not. Justice is blind. If you
commit a crime you belong in
jail. Why can’t the Democrats
understand that. It been this
way since the beginning of
time. Did anyone think giving
a criminal an appointment to
appear in court would make
them keep that court date?
Nothing can justify releasing
all the criminals.

Experience
doesn’t count
Dear editor,
Last week a climate change
skeptic depicted Greta Thunberg
as a member of the ‘climate
change alarmist movement’
and decried her lack of
scientifi c credentials. Thunberg
may not be a scientist but
neither is the skeptical columnist.
Interested parties can
read the evidence provided by
the overwhelming scientifi c
consensus (97% of climate scientists),
who conclude that
climate change is the result of
human activity.
This judgment is agreed
upon by scientifi c societies,
science academies,
U.S.government agencies and
intergovernmental bodies. Denying
climate change because
it does not align with your ideology
is yet another example
of intellectual dishonesty.

Happy 15th Birthday on
February 7 to our son, Nicholas.
Can’t believe you’re 15 already.
So proud of man you’re
becoming.
You’re doing so well at
Fordham Prep and getting
the honors that you promised
grandma, your guardian angel.
I’m sure grandma is smiling
down (and grandpa too)
and so proud of you.
We love you to the moon
and beyond.
God bless you today and always.
Enjoy your day and year
ahead.
Love you.

This week’s As Stated
presents a reaction to the Supreme
Court’s approval of the
President’s Public Charge rule
change .
State Senator Gustavo
Rivera, in a statement said.....
“On Holocaust Remembrance
Day, I was appalled by the
Supreme Court’s decision to
greenlight the Trump administration’s
enforcement of the
rule change redefi ning ‘public
charge.’ While we await
more details on how this outrageous
rule will be implemented,
it is clearer than ever
that the Trump administration
is purposely limiting legal
immigration to our country
and punishing the poorest
among us with purposefully
cruel intentions.
“Immigrant families, including
millions in New York
State, will face an agonizing
decision between accessing
basic needs such as food,
healthcare, and housing, or
risking their chance to obtain
a legal immigration status.
Before this decision was made,
the potential rule change was
creating an environment of
fear among many hard working
New Yorkers and discouraging
them from accessing
SENATOR GUSTAVO RIVERA
these, in many cases, life-saving
resources. Many are not
eligible for the benefi ts listed
in the rule, further demonstrating
that it was issued to
stoke fear and misinformation
at its core.
“We cannot be passive in
the face of this egregious rule.
We must come together to support
our already embattled
communities and categorically
reject further attacks
from this despicable administration.”
