 Greetings Sam Young ,
 SAL and Boosters members.
Are you ready to get your
 spook on tomorrow, Saturday
 night at our annual Halloween
 Bash. A $5 donation and
an optional small tray of your
choice of food will get you in
the door. First prize for the
 best costume. All are invited.
 Remember this is a costume
party. Come scare us … Boo!
 We have been working on
 getting a mailing label program
set up so we can send
 out the membership cards. We
 understand that many of our
 senior members rely on the
good old U.S. mail service for
 information. We thank you for
your patience. If a few of you
need to get out of the house, we
 have a few Broadway tickets
 to the performance of “Tina.”
A musical story about the life
and times of Tina Turner. The
 show is on Jan. 4, 2022 at 7 p.m.
We have a limited amount of
 tickets, so if you’re interested
call the Post or stop by and
put your name on the list. You
 must have proof of vaccination
in order to receive the tickets
and to enter the theater. We’ll
 be dancing in our seats.
Next Post meeting is on Saturday,
  Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. Cmdr.
Bill said donuts and coffee or
beer and chips will be waiting
for you. Bring along a new
 member. November is Veteran
 Appreciation Month. Don’t
 forget the NYC Veteran’s Day
Parade will be held in downtown
 Manhattan on Thursday,
Nov. 11. This is in honor
 of the 103rd anniversary of
 the signing of the armistice,
 which ended the World War
 I hostilities between the Allied
 nations and Germany
 in 1918. Our namesake Samuel
 H. Young gave his life to
this war. We thank all Armed
 Forces and our county’s Veterans
 who have served our great
nation and to give us the freedom
 we treasure so much. We
will host a U.S. Marine Corps
 birthday with the traditional
 cake-cutting ceremony on
Friday, Nov. 15 at our Post. It
 will conducted by the Marine
 Corp League. All Marines are
invited to join us. Stop by the
Post and speak to Cmdr. Owen
about the details. Do you know
 in 1775, the Continental Marines
 were established? A little
 trivia question: Who was
the fi rst Marine to receive the
 Medal of Honor?
 Also, don’t forget the
 Bronx Veteran’s Day Parade
will be held on Sunday, Nov.
 14. We will be honoring Joe
 Goonan as the grand marshall.
   Joe has given much of
his time to serve the veteran
 community. Parade line up
 starts at Lafayette and East
 Tremont Avenue at 11 a.m.,
kickoff at noon. FYI, If you
 can’t do the march, then
 stand on the sidelines and
 cheer.
 If you’re a veteran group
who is in need of a location
 to hold your meetings, look
 no further than our home
at Sam Young Post 620. This
goes the same to unions, community
 board meetings, etc.
 We have Wi-Fi, large
 screen projection, and a podium
 with a PA system for
your use. Call Jeanette for details
 at 718-822-8872 or stop by
the Post and check it out. We
 are always making improvements
 to the place.
 In closing Corporal John
Mackie re ceived the Medal of
 Honor during the American
 Civil War for maintaining
fi re on enemy positions while
his boat was battered by enemy
 artillery. And now you
 know. For God and country.

 Again, great to be back
 at American Turners NY.
Meeting was a bit long because
we do so much. Barino’s food
was really good, ask Tony and
 Lance.
 Next meeting, third
 Sunday in November, you
 know, 10:30 a.m. coffee, 11 a.m.
 commander’s call to order, 12
 p.m. cash bar and lunch.
 I’ll probably mess up
 Adjutant Colleen’s meeting
minutes, but suffi ce it to say
 we are fi nancially sound,
 participating in activities
 requested by Department of
 New York among other local
stuff, and we will continue to
 unravel membership issues,
 as you know computers make
 everything easier (not). We
can all be involved in the
 National Organization’s
 suggestion for Buddy Calls.
Make sure your team is OK
 in these troubled times.
 Help them get to meetings
 and to vote. Remember
 the ceremonies coming up
 for Veteran’s Day and our
 neighborhood parade with a
 really decent guy, Joe Goonan
of L.H. Hawkins Post 156 as
 grand marshal. Remember
 to salute honorary grand
 marshals families too, their
hero is no longer with us.
 Especially salute the 21 folded
 fl ags in silent procession
 that day. Remember why?
 Approximately 21 service
 members committing suicide
 almost daily. Uncle Sam sent
them so now it’s their sacred
obligation to fi gure out what’s
going on. I will be preparing a
 mass mailing of a promising
 new behavioral treatment
 modality for Post Traumatic
 Stress Disorder. Until Next
 Time: “Many of life’s failures
 are people who didn’t know
how close to success they were
 when they gave up.” -Thomas
