statements BTR letters & comments
resolved to disregard any mention
of God. As an example, in
the Congress, the House Committee
on Natural Resources
issued a revision to the swearing
in oath, to remove “So help
me God”, and replace it with
“Under penalty of law”. Other
committees are also considering
this change. Say what you
will about Republicans, the difference
is like night and day;
Democrats have lost their way.

Democratic
principles?
Letters to the editor are welcome from all readers.

be accepted for publication. The editor reserves
the right to edit all submissions.
Dear editor,
CNN Commentator Chris
Cuomo is too thin skinned
about being called ‘Fredo’. His
Italian American grandparents
like millions of other Italian
immigrants had to deal
with discrimination in employment
opportunities, housing,
medical care, higher education
and other activities.
President Trump puts up
with far worse insults on a
daily basis. Brother Andrew
has been far more successful
than Chris having served as
federal Secretary for Housing
and Urban Development, State
Attorney General, Governor
and potential Presidential
candidate.
All Chris has is his TV
show with low ratings. As Don
Corleone said in the Godfather
to Johnny Fontane who
was lamenting his inability to
get the leading role in a movie
that would jump start his failing
career, with a slap to the
face “Stop crying like a baby
and stand up like a man.”
Larry Penner
Dear editor,
In the August 9-15 Letters
& Comments, Larry Penner
states in “Democratic Principles”,
the extreme positions
that the 2020 presidential candidates
have taken. Penner accounts
for most of the policy issues
that were discussed in the
debates; however, I must add
one other. Whatever your position
is on social issues, Democrats
have gone far beyond
what at one time was considered
liberal.
No longer the party of our
parents and grandparents,
Democrats have devolved and
gone through a transformation.
With few exceptions, they
have become radicalized, reckless,
and their positions on
most issues are antithetical to
the Judeo-Christian ethic, traditional
values and institutions
most of the American people
uphold. The dignity and sanctity
of life, marriage between
one man and one woman, sexuality,
gender have been perverted,
and are in defi ance of
nature and natures God.
Now a party immersed in
secularism, Democrats have
embraced infanticide, socialism
and naturalism. They are
Conflicting
priorities
Dear editor,
Citizens should be forgiven
for failing to comprehend
how one major political party
refuses to regulate guns despite
the continuing carnage
caused by these weapons, yet
devotes much time and energy
to devising novel ways to regulate
women’s access to reproductive
health services.
Pasqual Pelosi
Dear editor,
As a former offi cer residing
in Throggs Neck I would
be remiss not to respond to
the Pantaleo termination. Police
Commissioner O’Neil or
as the rank and fi le refer to as
O’Knell was in a ‘no win’ situation.
Save the cop’s job and face
his own dismissal from socialist
de blasio. He chose the latter
but now faces the backlash
of a very demoralized police
force.
I haven’t seen this demor-
alization since the Crown
Heights and the Kiko Garcia
shooting.
Knowing that there are
a lot of boys and girls in blue
living the east Bronx I would
look at this termination very
carefully.
The NYPD under Police
Commissioner O’Neil prides
itself saying they will not cooperate
with ICE. Who was
the the Chief in the Borough
who had Pantaleo enforce NYS
tax laws? Why was the NYPD
being used to chase ‘loose’
cigarettes? NYS politicians
have been raising taxes on
cigarettes and cigars which in
turn created a black market.
Eric Garner was capitalizing
on the high cost of smoking.
Let’s ask Governor Cuomo
who raised the taxes?
I would say to all cops that
do anti- crime, SNEU, conditions
or any other pro enforcement
plain clothes gigs: “Look
what happened to Pantaleo.”
He had 14 commendations
and over 300 arrests. He’s now
unemployed with a newborn.
The mayor, Police Commissioner
O’Neil, Chief Pollock
in charge of Compstat, and
the rest of the police department
hierarchy will not be
saving your job when arrests
go wrong. After the rank of
captain it’s all about who you
know and we know the rest.
Pantaleo now joins the
ranks of ex-cops like Paddy
Regan of the 34th Precinct’s
anti crime. Done in by aggressive
policing and overzealous
politicians.
Commish O’Neil’s legacy:
Nine police suicides so far this
year, cops being water bucketed
in uniform and now the
fi ring of Pantaleo.
Joesph M. Greco
This week’s As Stated
explores statements on the
recent fi ring of police offi -
cer Daniel Pantaleo and the
Trump administration’s decision
to limit an immigrants’
use of government benefi ts.
Councilwoman Vanessa
Gibson’s statement on termination
of NYPD police offi cer
Daniel Pantaleo..... “For fi ve
years we have watched and
waited for justice to be served.
Today we thank Commissioner
O’Neil for his strength
and commitment to upholding
justice and his decision to
terminate Offi cer Pantaleo.
While this decision will not
bring Eric Garner back, it is
my hope that a small measure
of justice can bring healing
to a family who has been in
mourning demanding justice
for fi ve long years. Commissioner
O’Neill made the right
decision to hold Offi cer Pantaleo
accountable for his actions
and I thank him for standing
on the right side of justice.”
State Senator Gustavo
Rivera on the Trump Administration’s
recently announced
changes to the ‘Public Charge’
Rule..... “The fi nal language
to the ‘Public Charge’ Rule
once again makes abundantly
clear that the Trump administration
will use every tool
at their disposal to limit legal
immigration, while continuing
to incite hatred and violence
against all new Americans
pursuing a better life.
“These new changes will
affect poor immigrant families
by discouraging and
preventing access to basic

necessities and life-saving resources
through public programs.
Immigrant families
across our country, and in
our state, who have to rely on
government benefi ts to cover
their basic needs such as food,
healthcare, and housing, will
be forced to make the agonizing
decision between ensuring
their well-being and safety
or pursuing a legal immigration
status.
“This action further proves
this administration’s cruelty.
They continue to wage war
against undocumented people,
while setting additional
barriers for immigrants to adjust
their status and obtain visas.
It is evident that this administration
is not interested
in fi xing our dysfunctional
immigration system, it simply
wants to harass and persecute
poor people of color.”
