DA Clark announces the bust. Bronx DA
50 pounds of Bronxbound
heroin, fentanyl
intercepted by police

Over 50 pounds of heroin and fentanyl
headed for the Bronx were intercepted
by police on Wednesday,
June 5.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel
Clark along with other law enforcement
agents announced that 22 people
have been indicted on charges related
to distributing the lethal drugs
in the borough.
The investigation began with a
probe of drug dealing in the McKinley
Houses, where accused Charlie
Rodriguez of East 163rd Street allegedly
headed a group that sold glassines
of heroin with the stamp ‘PAID’
and glassine with fentanyl stamped
‘PRICELESS.’ One of the defendants,
Jose Jaquez of Hammersley Avenue,
allegedly transported drugs and cash
throughout the Bronx in his NYC
green taxicab. Rodriguez also allegedly
distributed narcotics to resellers
in Albany.
According to the 20-month investigation
by the DA’s Offi ce, NYPD
Criminal Enterprise Investigative
Section, Drug Enforcement Administration
Task Force and Homeland
Security Investigations, dubbed ‘Operation
Getting Paid,’ the defendants
were part of two different groups
that traffi cked several kilograms of
fentanyl and heroin monthly, and
sold it in bulk to distributors in the
Bronx, Philadelphia, Albany, and
other cities in the northeast. The
drugs wound up on the streets bags
sold for $10.
Meanwhile the second indictment
alleges the other group, headed by
now deceased Kelvin De Leon and
Carlos Miguel De Leon of Walton
Avenue, distributed their narcotics
from University Heights, Kingsbridge
Heights and Concourse, and
supplied Carlos Vazquez with heroin
mixed with fentanyl. Vazquez lived
in Wakefi eld and allegedly distributed
much of his drugs close to the
McKinley and Forest houses.
