BY ANDREW CHIRICO
It has been some time since
we have written our column.
This past Thursday we attended
an in person meeting
with the 45 th Pct NCO’s at
the First Lutheran Church of
Throggs Neck. Even with the
restrictions of covid 19 we had
a full house and a very productive
meeting. Among the
topics discussed were abandon
cars and uninsured cars
with fake or expired out of
state plates. We are encouraged
to report these cars to
both 311 and to the NCO offi -
cers directly. These cars take
up parking in our neighborhood,
they can be ticketed and
towed. Other topics of concern
are people double parking,
leaving the car running when
going into a store to pick up
coffee or food only to fi nd the
car is stolen. You are encouraged
to park legally and always
take your key. When you
are getting gas shut off the car
and put the key in your pocket.
People are out there ready to
steal your car. This has become
a problem city wide, you
can protect yourself and your
car by being aware of your
surroundings by taking these
simple steps. An ongoing problem
all year round is unsolicited
phone calls. The caller
may say they are from the IRS
or Social Security or Con Edison
or even claim to be a family
member in trouble. They
try to engage you in a conversation
to get you to send them
your money. Government
agencies will never call you
to demand money. If you owe
money you will always get an
offi cial letter when payment
is due. If you get any unsolicited
phone calls just hang up.
There is an ongoing problem
city wide with UPS Postal or
FedEx deliveries if you are expecting
a delivery when you
are not home give the shipper
instruction to require a signature
or leave a package with a
neighbor who you know will
be home. Finally I would like
to thank the members of Sector
“B” Neighborhood Coordination
Offi cers for holding
this NCO meeting. If you have
any questions or concerns
that you would like the NCO
offi cers to address you can email
the offi cers and they will
respond. They are here to help
you and your neighbors. PO
