While stripping the fretwork by hand,
Victory learned that the intertwined
curved elements were created by soaking
and twisting pieces of wood. She
admits to removing another section of
fretwork that interfered with circulation
in the front hall. “I love the old
details, but sometimes they get in the
way of modern life,” she says.
