ended up in Astoria and have been in
the same roomy apartment on 45th
Street ever since.
Back in California, the couple was
known for throwing elaborate parties
with over-the-top décor. When they
moved to New York, they didn’t let the
apartment size stop them from keeping
with tradition – but this time, they added
an all-out Tiki party to their repertoire.
Demerath jokes that due to his background
in theater, skills in scenic design
and love of rum cocktails, it was almost
inevitable that a Tiki party was in his future.
“Tiki has been sort of an ongoing
journey for me,” Demerath said. “I just
absorbed it and learned about it very
quickly. It’s not just a cocktail movement
