 father worked in the ‘60s and ‘70s. This display  
 was inspired by Jeff Koons, famous for  
 his “ginormous” balloon dog sculptures,  
 Kirschner said.  
 In the course of my conversation with  
 Kirschner, I didn’t always get a clue from  
 her telling me why the objects were paired  
 the way they were. But I got the sense that  
 this was intentional, because Kirschner told  
 me her  displays  are meant  to  inspire  her  
 own  artwork,  rather than intrigue  a  relic  
 hunter or stump a museumgoer.  
 “Everything that I set up and display is  
 only done as a means to inspire myself to  
 create my own work,” said Kirschner, who  
 creates and sells jewelry, some of which is  
 displayed around the house.
