JUNE 2020 I BOROMAG.COM
The podcast We Come From
Queens, hosted by Cadacia and
Monique, ended in 2018, but there
are four years’ worth of episodes
on “adulthood, dating, wellness and
Queendom things” to listen to on
SoundCloud.
The longtime friends and Queens
natives share interests such as
books, dancing, music, going out
for brunch and fighting the patriarchy.
Their experiences as women of
color are also a large part of their
podcast.
Guest stars include Mimi, the Black
entrepreneur behind the Queens
hair salon I am Nubian, and financial
blogger Kara Stevens, aka Frugal
Feminista. Cadacia and Monique
are pros at balancing their personal
lives with giving their listeners advice
on topics like sexual health,
self-confidence and having the
courage to do what’s best for you.

The Cold Read
For everyone who misses going
to the cinema, The Cold
Read podcast brings readings of
brand-new screenplays straight
to your headphones.
One of the three hosts, Blake
Rice, Ricky Ryan or Hunter Hoffman,
write each episode’s script.
The other hosts and a special
guest are cast to “cold read” the
screenplay, meaning none of
them have seen the script before
the episode.
The podcast started in 2016,
and the Astoria-based hosts record
the episodes at Long Island
Sounds, located in LIC. Their
guest stars include performers
and writers such as Alan Trinca
from “Friends: The Musical,”
Sydnee Washington from “Girl
Code,” Sarah Tollemache from
“Late Night with Stephen Colbert”
and Nick Vatterot from
“Real Time With Bill Maher.”
The hourlong episodes are
never short of quirky story
lines and lovable characters.
The first, a noir detective story
called “Murder, Mystery and
Crime in NYC,” was described
as “The Spirit meets Sin City.”
The Cold Read is available
on Spotify and Apple Podcasts
and is currently on pause due
to COVID-19.
