The Goon Cast
The five-year-old podcast The
Goon Cast will make you feel
like you are eavesdropping on
multiple guys talking about random
topics in a basement or a
garage. It seems like the hosts
Joe, Billy and Bobby specifically
cultivated this intimate vibe.
The Goon Cast has clocked
in around 265 episodes where
“random” takes on a whole new
meaning. The first nine episodes
don’t have titles, but cover subjects
from Seth Rogen’s weight
loss (remember that?) to Digimon.
Later on, however, they find
a lane for each episode while
still hopping around among topics
such as football, celebrities
and movies.
The Goon Cast is available on
Player FM, Spotify, Apple Podcasts,
iHeart, Stitcher, TuneIn and
Youtube.

Mija Podcast
In Mija Podcast, listeners meet the fictional Mija, a
daughter of Columbian immigrants, and her family.
Each of its eight episodes focuses on a different family
member, with Mila as narrator. She begins with her own
story as she pieces together some of her family’s history
and her own. Many of the episodes feel like a love letter
to Queens. Mija talks about the beauty of the tree-lined
streets, learning to ride a bike in Flushing Meadows and
how her parents met at a dance club in Long Island City.
This kid-friendly podcast discusses the hardships
of immigrants and their children. Mija
explains how difficult it was for her to grow
up in America in the ‘90s with with minimal
(and often stereotypical) media representation.
However, she and her family
found comfort in hearing Columbian
music in the streets of Jackson Heights
and the moments of feeling at home in
a different country.
Mija Podcast is available on Spotify in
English, French and Spanish and is produced
by Studio Ochenta, a multilingual
podcast studio located in Queens.
