my first birthday present. But she does like it.”
“I do,” Riccio said. “It’s butterflies; it’s horses;
it’s just great.”
Nearby, the TV sits on a stand that Riccio
built. Instead of dropping hundreds of
dollars on a custom piece, Riccio knew she
could do it herself. The console is thin and
long with stained wood, and the shelves are
connected with adjustable metal rods.
Riccio also constructed a tall wooden rack
in the kitchen to house their cooking appliances,
as well as a long worktable in their
bedroom for her art.
Arguably the most impressive part about
their whole apartment is that everything is
hung using command hooks.
“Like college,” Riccio said.
Most of the walls are made of plaster.
“That was the only drawback to this apartment,”
Rabinovitch said. “It was specifically
stated in the lease: you cannot put any holes
in the wall.”
