Cookie Crumz opened on Nov.
20, 2021 as a bakery that specializes
in uniquely flavored
cookies. “We try to come
up with very innovative
flavorful cookies that’ll
really stimulate the taste
buds,” CEO and founder
Argyrios Mavrogiorgis
told BORO. Some of these
flavors include Ooey Gooey
Nutella, Matcha, Cookies &
Crum and the newly added Pistachio
Passion. Originally opened as a wholesale
business in Long Island City in 2018, Mavrogiorgis decided
to open up a storefront after people would smell the
cookies baking and try to buy some directly from the warehouse.
He chose Astoria because it’s his hometown, and he
said that the community has been welcoming toward his
business. “It’s been a long time coming for me and I’m just
so happy that I’m able to share this with my community and
that they accept me,” Mavrogiorgis said.

Wonder Pig is an all-you-can-eat
Korean barbecue restaurant in Sunnyside
that opened in September 2021.
The restaurant’s owner told BORO
that he chose to open there because
there weren’t any Korean barbecue
restaurants in the area at the time.
Other than being the only KBBQ place
in the neighborhood, what makes
Wonder Pig unique, according to the
owner, is the restaurant’s selection of
high-quality meats, from red meat to
pork to squid, at reasonable prices.
While eating, customers can enjoy the
simple and clean interior of the restaurant
while listening to the K-Pop music
playing. “The community response has
been awesome so far,” Wonder Pig’s
owner said. “Many customers have
come back multiple times and it’s great
to see the customers smile and have
an enjoyable time in our restaurant.”
