Giant Pumpkin Weekend
If you can’t get enough pumpkin this fall, make a
trip to the New York Botanical Garden on October 26
and 27 for Giant Pumpkin Weekend.
The name says it all with some of the world’s
largest pumpkins on display for the public to see,
some of which can weigh up to 1,800 pounds.
Elite growers from around the world showcase
their proudest works here every year in collaboration
with the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth. Bring
your camera and see how you size up with these
gargantuan gourds.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
As one of the most iconic annual events in New York City, the Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day Parade officially kicks off the holiday season with its
precession of giant balloons, floats, marching bands, cheerleaders,
Broadway performances, celebrities and more.
Founded in 1924, the event has grown into a nationally televised
spectacle that even allows spectators to watch the pre-Thanksgiving
balloon inflation.
The festivities begin promptly at 9 a.m. on November 28 at 77th Street
and Central Park West and conclude at 12 p.m. outside Macy's Herald
Square on West 34th Street. While this year’s performers have yet to be
announced, you can already get a sneak peak of the balloons that will be
on display.
Don’t forget to stay until the end when Santa Claus makes his arrival in
the big city!
New York City Marathon
People from all over the world will travel to New York to
join more than 50,000 people in running the 2019 New York
City Marathon on November 3.
Now in its 49th year, the marathon begins on Staten
Island and weaves through all five boroughs, crossing four
bridges along the way, and finishes in Central Park. The 26.2
mile course may be too daunting for the casual runner, but
spectators regularly line up to cheer on the participants
each and every year.
There are always many emotional stories from runners
who are competing for a cause too.
