“You have to learn to pace yourself/
You’re just like everybody else,” Billy
Joel wrote in his hit song “Pressure.”
For college students this time of year, pressure comes in many
forms: midterms, thesis presentations, choosing classes for the
spring, and finding a way to enjoy college life without breaking the
bank any further.
But we’re not here to offer you “Peter Pan advice” or a “cosmic
rationale” — just some helpful ways to cope with the insanity of
college while also finding ways to kick back and relax.
Let’s say you’ve chosen a major and you’re already doubting
yourself about it. It’s only natural to wonder how the degree you
pursue will enable you to find the career that’s not only right for you
financially, but also personally fulfilling.
When you come to that proverbial fork in the road, and you’re not
sure which path to take, reach out to someone for advice.
Final exams are approaching, and you’re no slacker; you want
to ace that test and show the professor that you have been paying
attention. But you need a comfortable, quiet place to prepare — and
let’s face it, neither the quad nor your dorm room are the fortresses
of solitude you need to hit the books.
Seniors know that graduation day is not all that far away, and two
concerns come to mind: How are you going to find a job, and how are
you going to pay off that big student loan? We’ll offer you some tips
on how to ace that job interview, and how to manage your finances
so you can tackle your student debt following graduation without
going insane.
Of course, it’s no secret that most college students are already
on tight budgets. We’ll offer you some ways on how you can treat
yourself to some of the finer things in life and stretch your dollars as
far as they can go.
After you go through this issue, we hope you’ll feel a little more
relaxed about things and the pressure will seem just a little bit easier
to handle. Don’t forget what a special time this is in your lives; the
future may seem scary and uncertain, but right now, you’re building
great friendships and learning from knowledgeable professors who
have been in your shoes before. Enjoy this experience.
“This is the time to remember,” as Billy Joel also sang, “‘cause it
will not last forever.”
