or laptop that work well, especially the voice
recorder that comes already installed on your
iPhone. Now you can conveniently study by
listening to lectures on the go.
Read through syllabi to
plan for due dates
When you receive a syllabus on the first day of
the semester, read through it right away to see
when papers are due and tests will be taken. Your
professors are not going to remind you about
these dates often enough, so mark these dates
in your calendar to ensure you’re prepared for
everything.
Take notes using
different colored pens
Visual cues are a great way to enhance your
memory. Come up with your own system of using
different colored pens while writing notes and
you will recall the information much easier while
taking a test.
Hang multiple garments
with soda tabs
If you have a small closet and too many clothes,
this is an excellent way to save space. Simply
place a soda can tab on a hanger and you can hang
several garments together in the same spot!
Use hooks as a tablet
wall mount
Get creative with the way you use your tablet
by making your very own wall mount. Simply
stick two utility hooks to the wall and rest the
tablet on the hooks. Now you can use a wireless
keyboard, watch movies, FaceTime your mom or
do homework with ease!
Use dryer sheets to
freshen up your room
Keep your small dorm room or apartment from
getting that musty smell by putting your dryer
sheets to use. They can be placed over a fan to
blow a fresh scent through the room, or they
can also be stuffed in shoes, drawers and other
confined spaces to eliminate odors.
Create your own
toothbrush holder
Having multiple roommates and sharing a
bathroom can be a challenge to your personal
hygiene. But If you wrap rubber bands over the
top of a cup, you’ve just fashioned a toothbrush
holder that will keep your bristles from resting
against your roommate’s!
Create more kitchen
counter space
Limited kitchen space is a common thread
between most New York City apartments. When
you are cooking dinner and simply don’t have
enough counter space, try placing a cutting board
over an open drawer. You could even do this over
two drawers and create even more space if you
have multiple cutting boards.
Protect your bag while
sleeping on the subway
It’s important to protect your belongings when
trying to catch a few extra minutes of sleep on the
subway. Make sure your bag never gets stolen by
placing it on the ground between your legs and
slipping one of your feet through the handles.
Use a tennis ball as a
universal holder
Aspire’s personal favorite college life hack is
the all-purpose tennis ball hook. Slice the ball
open a little less than halfway, screw it to the
wall, and now you can hang your towels, clothing,
backpack, or anything else you can think of!
Organize wires with
binder clips
Do you have wires for all of your devices laying
around your desk? Clamp a few binder clips along
the edge of the desk for each of those wires to
keep them separated and handy. Now you can
find exactly which wire you need without having
to untangle them or worry about tripping over
them in the night.
Tie a bag of vinegar
around your shower
head
A shower head may be one of the most
forgotten things to clean in your home, and over
time it can build up a lot of gunk. Take care of
that problem by filling a plastic bag with vinegar,
placing it over the shower head and letting it
soak. The vinegar should eat away at the grime
in no time.
Set alarms for
everything
The alarm function on your phone should be
used for much more than just waking up in the
morning. While you’re adjusting to your new
schedule, try setting an alarm for each one of
your classes, meetings and events to make sure
you are always on time.
