T4 & Ark celebrate
Int’l Assistance Dog Week
The ARK at JFK teamed up with JFK Terminal 4 and the Guide Dog
Foundation to raise awareness and to recognize all the devoted, hardworking
assistance dogs who help individuals mitigate their disabilityrelated
limitations while traveling during “International Assistance Dog
Week” (IADW) .
This event recognized all the devoted, hardworking assistance dogs
who help individuals mitigate their disability-related limitations while
traveling. The animal experts of The ARK along with T4 representatives
were on hand, and the Guide Dog Foundation held a puppy class for travelers
in transit at the terminal.
The ARK Pet Oasis serves as a central resource available 24/7, servicing
the needs and promoting the welfare of companion animals traveling
as cargo. ARK Pet Oasis accepts all domestic and international in-transit
animals traveling through JFK, serving as a rest stop to provide relief in
between flights or during U.S. Customs clearance. For 70 years, the Guide
Dog Foundation has trained and placed guide and service dogs to provide
independence, enhanced mobility, and companionship to people who are
blind, have low vision, or who have other special needs. and provides its
services completely free of charge to the individual.
In 2016, Terminal 4 launched JFK Airport’s first indoor, post-security
pet relief area, where passengers can relieve their guide and service
dogs, emotional support
animals and other traveling
pets beyond the security
checkpoint. As one
of the world’s most modern
and efficient air terminals,
T4 prides itself
on providing an accessible
air terminal for all
passengers. In addition
to the post-security pet
relief area, the terminal
also offers Jetweels, nonmetallic,
lightweight and
ergonomic seat-equipped
wheelchairs, accessible
drinking fountains and
wheelchair accessible restrooms.
T4 also recently
partnered with CBP to
launch a new Arrivals
accessibility program
focused on passengers
with autism and other invisible
disabilities.
