Clean Trucks
Funding to
modernize
available
In an effort to
give local businesses
an incentive
to modernize their
trucking fleets and
reduce diesel truck
emissions the New
York City DOT recently
launched the
NYC Clean Trucks
Program. Funding
is available from
$12,000 up to $185,000
per truck replacement,
depending on
fuel type and truck class size.
The program works with truck
dealerships who can help walk
businesses through the process of
the incentive program. Authorized
dealerships include Gabrielli Truck
Sales which has two locations in
20 AIRPORT VOICE, MARCH 2021
and near the GatewayJFK district.
Those interested in learning more
about the program, please reach out

provides third-party
validation of a cleaning service provider’s
cleaning, disinfection, and
infection prevention protocols and
procedures.
“Building service contractors
are on the frontlines of cleaning,
disinfecting, and infection prevention
of facilities during the pandemic,
and many are looking for
ways to promote their expertise,”
said GBAC Executive Director Patricia
Olinger. BSCs and other
cleaning service providers who
want to demonstrate their commitment
to building occupant health
and safely through a respected,
third-party accreditation can
achieve GBAC STAR Service accreditation
by completing the program’s
training requirements and
implementation guidelines.

LGA modernizing plane fueling
New hydrant fueling system planned for 21st Century airport
BY JEFF YAPALATER
Although not one of the sexy big infrastructure
projects at the airports, the Hydrant fueling project
planned at LGA will bring efficiency, safety and sustainability
to the airport. This is the first fuel pipeline
that will be laid to connect the future terminals
currently in construction with the fuel farm. Hydrant
refuelling is considered to be an optimal fuelling
method as it cuts the overall costs while delivering
efficiencies. According to the John Muenzen
of LGA engineering, the sustainability will come
from the reduction of use of large fossil fuel delivery
trucks, the wear and tear of the roadway, and the reduction
of emission; improved safety because there
will be less trucks on the field therefore less traffic
and chance of any accidents, less issues with inclement
weather tuck movements; and efficiency with
less time to refuel the aircraft, and less congestion
on the airfield with other vehicles.
A hydrant fueling system provides all the necessary
equipment and controls to deliver clean, dry
fuel to fueling points in the aircraft parking apron.
The LGA hydrant project allows at gate aircraft
fueling through an underground piping system
rather than using the truck delivery that now serves
the airport. Instead the pipeline will be at every
airline gate gage and cart sized vehicles will aid in
the pumping of fuel from the ground into the plane.
Completion of the project should coincide roughly
with the complete renovation of the airport in 2023.
Muenzen said that Argus Consulting Engineers,
P.C. has been hired by LGA Fuel, LLC to offer program
management services for the LaGuardia Jet
Fuel Transmission System project. The scope of this
project includes connecting to the new hydrant systems
at Terminals B and C. The tank farm portion
of this project will include construction of a pump/
filtration equipment station including controls, infrastructure
upgrades and upgrades to the existing
tank farm system. Transmission pipe lines and communication
Hydrant fuel pipeline plan for LaGuardia
duct banks will be constructed from the
tank farm to Terminals B and C. Argus anticipates
that the contract will be awarded in the second quarter
of 2021 and construction will start in the third
quarter of 2021. The microtunnel portion of the project
will be completed in the first quarter of 2022, followed
by the transmission lines and communication
duct banks in the third quarter of 2023 and the tank
farm in the fourth quarter of 2023.
