KAAMCO March meeting
Airline fees
discussion
dominates
The March KAAMCO meeting was
called to order by President Roger
Scott who said it was a year ago that
Covid hit the airport and he is looking
to the future when we could all get
together again in person. This statement
was clearly true as VP Mark
Flug announced that the 2021 Kaamco
Golf Outing is tentatively scheduled
for June 17th at the Garden City Country
Club. More details to follow on the
date and event.
The Kaamco Interline agreement
still needs to be ratified and is
some members votes short Scott announced.
He asked for the rest of
members to vote YES and keep baggage
rates low.
Airline fees have been a subject of
concern for the past few months with
the huge increase. Kaamco invited
NYALO to speak to the group to explain
how fees have been determined.
Airline Fees
The Port leases space to terminals
and airlines of which are
partially paid by airline fees. The
abrupt drop in airline travel due
to the spread of the virus, U.S. and
other country restrictions and
quarantines all had a profound affect
on international airline capacity
and subsequently, fees due to the
Port Authority.
The then mid 2020 $6.31 fee per
1000 lbs. of gross weight was impossible
to remain in effect. In the bi-annual
financial meeting in July 2020,
when fees were at $6.31 it appeared
that the fee would have to be raised to
14.90 to cover Port costs, but all parties
agreed this was unaffordable by
the airlines and back to the discussions
they went to structure an acceptable
financial solution.
With airlines bleeding millions
of dollars daily, more was needed to
keep airlines alive. With some deferred
fees without interest charges
spread out over three years, and with
CARES finding money and reduction
of O&M costs, the Port, in discussion
with NYALO and the Airline Council
, was able to keep the 2020 fees at $6.31
but this would be increased to $11.63
in January 2021.
This current rate $11.63 will be reviewed
at the upcoming June financial
meeting where discussions will
enter into a new phase as some airline
business picks up and how much additional

money might come from state
or federal funding.
In other business:
Cargo Committee Brian Cooley
announced that the upcoming
Cargo Meeting on March 25 will debut
its first virtual gathering. Keep
an eye out for Virtual meeting details
He also said that it might be
time for an airport FOD event in the
Spring. More details to come on this
as well.
Pastor Dabee reminded everyone
of the upcoming Virtual Bishop
Wright Aviation Luncheon and Susan
Baer Scholarship award which is
scheduled for April 21; See details on
the Calendar Events on page 6, in this
issue.
The Pastor also reminded everyone
that on this exact day March 10,
we were all should to shoulder in
groups and that God willing, we will
begin to see each other in person at
upcoming Gold events as the threat of
contagion lessens.
The JFK Rotary 5K Race is on
for this year from April 24-May 2nd
. But in a slightly different way. Due
to the continued concern over Covid,
this race will be held Virtually. How?
