Black Car Fund and IDG members benefit
The Independent Drivers
Guild (IDG), the Black Car Fund
(BCF) and the Port Authority of
NYNYNJ partnered to supply
3500 rideshare drivers at La-
Guardia and JFK Airport FHV
lots with free covid home test
kits.
According to Ira Goldstein,
Executive Director of BCF, and
Brendan Sexton of the IDG, it
is important to provide the rideshare
drivers with these kits.

Said Goldstein, a former executive
with the Taxi Limousine
Commission, “ Giving the home
test kit is important to the driver
and for public safety. Our drivers
can meet more than a dozen
passengers everyday from airports
all over the world so public
safety is important.” LGA General
Manager Tony Vero stopped
by the event and talked with drivers.
He told them that their service
is vital to the airport by helping
to move some of the millions
of travelers using the airport every
year. Manager Landside Ops
at LGA Peter Carbonaro added,
“ This is a great idea since the
drivers are so close to the public
and safety is key to the riders
using Uber, Lyft and other black
car drivers at the airports.” Both
the IDG and BCF are organizations
that provide many services
and representation for the tens
of thousands of independent
car drivers. Bags of covid test
kits, digital gloves, and special
bracelets were given out to all
that were using the lot waiting for
rides. IDG members also took
the opportunity to ask rideshare
drivers to sign up for Black Car
Fund membership.
