The mission of the Cinema Arts Centre is to bring
the best in cinematic artistry to Long Island, and
use the power of fi lm to expand the awareness
and consciousness of the community. When the
Cinema Arts Centre was founded in 1973, it was
called the New Community Cinema. They have
a long history of using the power of fi lm to do
social good. Programs unite, inspire, educate,
mobilize, and create empathy in a world where
empathy is greatly needed. Like the power of fi lm
itself, which is greater than the sum of its parts,
the power of the CAC is boundary-breaking.
Programs lift the voices of under-represented
groups, of vital community organizations, and
other not-for-profi t organizations, impacting a
variety of causes and issues, and allowing them to
share resources, create mutual benefi ts and work
toward a better Long Island.

The Cradle of Aviation Museum is an aerospace
museum located in Garden City, New York to
commemorate Long Island’s part in the history of
aviation. It is located on land that was once a part
of Mitchel Air Force Base which, together with
nearby Roosevelt Field and other airfi elds on the
Hempstead Plains, was the site of many historic
fl ights. So many seminal fl ights had occurred
in the area that by the mid-1920s the cluster
of airfi elds was already dubbed the “Cradle of
Aviation”, the origin of the museum’s name.
Today the museum contains over 60 aircraft
and scale models of airplanes from various time
periods, including Charles Lindbergh’s Curtiss
Jenny in which he barnstormed, the A-10
Thunderbolt II and Grumman F-14 Tomcat, and
an actual unused Apollo Lunar Module, LM-13.

Old Westbury Gardens, listed on the National
Register of Historic Places, is the former home
of John S. Phipps, his wife, Margarita Grace
Phipps and their four children. Completed
in 1906 by the English designer, George A.
Crawley, the magnifi cent Charles II-style
mansion is nestled amid 200 acres of formal
gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds
and lakes. Westbury House is furnished with

the more than 50 years of the family’s residence.
