A 22-year-old man from Georgia was arrested on Nov. 6 for trying to bring a pistol into a plane at JFK Airport. Zachary Hamilton of Kennesaw, Georgia, was at the check-in counter at Terminal 2 in JFK Airport on Sunday when a TSA agent asked him what was in his black bag. Hamilton told the agent it contained a gun and Port Authority police found a glock in the bag. Hamilton was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a fi rearm. Ronald Colson, 34, was sentenced to 33 years in prison this week after being convicted in June of second-degree murder, fi rst- and second-degree assault, seconddegree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree promoting prostitution, endangerment and tampering with physical evidence. According to trial testimony, on May 23, 2011, Colson fi red his semi-automatic pistol into a crowd of people attending an outdoor party near 145th Drive in Springfi eld Gardens, then fl ed the scene. One of the victims, Dane Freeman, 20, was shot in the head and died from his injuries. The four remaining victims were also seriously injured by the gunfi re. Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said, “The death of this young man and the wounding of four other individuals is yet another painful example of the mindless gun-related violence that too often takes innocent lives.” He hopes that Colson’s conviction will bring some sort of comfort to his victims and their families. A St. Albans woman has been arrested and charged for causing the death of a woman whom she allegedly pushed in front of a subway train in Manhattan. The incident occurred at 1:20 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, at the Times Square- 42nd Street station on the South Ferrybound platform of the 1 train line. Upon arrival, police found an unconscious and unresponsive 49-year-old woman on the subway tracks. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identifi ed as Connie Watton of Long Island City. Following an investigation, 30-yearold Melanie Liverpool of St. Albans was taken into custody in regards to the incident. According to published reports, Liverpool was seen arguing with Watton by witnesses moments before the incident. Police described Liverpool as emotionally disturbed and a preliminary investigation suggests that the attack was unprovoked. Liverpool was charged with seconddegree murder.
